Scam 964 coupe (5spd) classifieds are the flavor of the month. Be careful out there.

so true about "honest sellers",,,, i've been searching for "the right car" for about a year now,,,, and have had a to learn a lot the hard way. The search is even more difficult if you completely lock yourself in to a color. the 964 had very low production numbers and are very hard to find now as 25-28 year old cars. For me, I am committed to finding a C2 coupe in manual,,,,i will judge the color once cars come up for sale. I've tired to even consider C4s. The black on black C4 in Costa Mesa wasn't that nice. It had paint work in different areas,,,, one of the wheels was from a 993,,,burnt paint mark on the side of hood,,,lots of little things. That wide body C4 at checkered Flag was for sale for a long long time,,,In my opinion, the Ice Blue metallic C4 for sale in San Fran is a very good car at a reasonable price. but I really want a C2.
Interesting the black C4 at Auto Kennel wasn't as described to me by the seller....big surprise there. He said cosmetically it was "perfect". And yeah, Neil (checkered flag) does have cars for a long time because of his asking prices, but he always seems to move them eventually. I think he has two 946 widebodys there right now if I'm not mistaken.

It was 13 months ago that I made the deal on my '91 Targa, which was the result of a 6 month search. Before I got familiar with the fair market values, I was going to get a '92-93 C2 coupe, with a $30k budget. (record scratch sound) I found a well documented Targa that wasn't a color I really wanted, but ticked most of the boxes. A year later I guess that same car has gone up about 10% in value.

Love it. Any comments on realistic market for 964 widebodies? Not exactly a liquid market and I get the premium for the body + low miles but price seems ludicrous. Porsche Colo Springs has a similar car for $113k but it's been sitting for almost 6 months I think. Feels like $90k or thereabouts is a closer to market. There was an Amazon Green one in the RL classifieds listed high 60s or something. Sold in about 15 minutes...
Not much different than the turbo markets. A 3.6T can trade hands anywhere from $185k up to or over $300k depending on the car. Narrow markets do take time to sell but they are selling. I find the best cars are trading hands privately and this is info that is hard to quantify but it is happening. IMO I would look for a nice 3.3L turbo for about the same as a nice WB C4.

I went and saw the car in person - various issues.
The odometer was in miles. It should have been in KM from Japan. This leads me to believe it was swapped and therefore I do not trust the mileage.
It was most certainly NOT all original paint. It looked like it was bumped or otherwise in the right rear. The car showed paintwork in multiple places, but right rear lower quality work.
The seats and interior were verryyy tired for a "53K mile car".
In the context of the market, the price was about right, but I do not think the car was anywhere near as nice as it was represented.

If you are looking for a deal you will be spending far less but expect to dump money into correcting others mistakes and associated issues. If you really want one I would hold out until a nice one comes along and prepare to spend up for it.
