Why is it that if I have the deck lid open for a few days while working on my car, the battery gets run down to nothing? I don't see a light back there anywhere...

Just had it happen again .

There should be a light. Maybe your bulb is burned out. When the engine lid is up, it turns on the bulb at the engine and the frunk. I put a clamp on my switch to keep it drawing power. The switch on my 1990 & 91 cars is on the bottom left.

I had a feeling, but couldn't find the light !!! Even though it must be burned out, it's drawing current ?

The early cars with the pin switch did this. They later eliminated the pin switch and made it part of the newer style latch. I have a friends 91 targa on my lift now and I had forgotten it did this.

Is there a flap or some sort of engine management change between under-2000 rpm and over?

I.e. What does motronic do after 2k rpm that it doesn't do sub 2k?

And follow up is if you go from 3.5k to 2k, does the reverse occur?

The reasonance flap switches on at ~ 5,500 rpm. There is no other mechanical switch in the rpm range except for the Idle and Wide open throttle microswitches.

Thx John, that's what I thought from all my research, but was hoping I was overlooking something. I've narrowed the intermittant CEL I see to only RPM's below 2K. I've driven several hundred miles on the highway without a single CEL, but as soon as I get to city stop and go, CEL will come on probably 20% of the time the tach shows a RPM below 2K.

The funny thing is I'm average approximately 20mpg in combined hwy/city driving, don't see any drop off in performance, and yet I'm still dealing with the issue.

Plan on dropping by RicardoD's place sometime soon to get a diagnostic that hopefully is more extensive than what my Bergvill diagnostic can tell me - which is all things are good...
