Hi all,

Have a question ever since I bought the car 3 years ago, but kept on forgetting to post here. I have a 964 C2 and have trouble figuring out the Make Year of the car. The VIN is as follow:

WP0ZZZ96ZLS400331

Online VIN decode sites suggest that this is a 1990 car; however, my vehicle registration document (Hong Kong title issued by Transport Department) indicates 1989. Anyone know the true answer? Thanks.

The letter "L" says it's a MY90 car. But most cars from each MY is built the previous year, -89 in your case.

Porsche typically started new Model Year production in the year before, following the August plant closing for annual vacation. Thus Model Year 1990 production started in September 1989.

Does anyone know how the pressure relief plug under the engine and its spring and sleeve should be installed? I was changing my oil today and pulled that plug to drain instead of the correct plug. I know I got the wrong plug when the spring shot out. Also is there a torque setting for it? Bone head mistake!

Default Rear Suspension Hardware

So I bit the bullet and ordered ERP rear spring plate rebuild kit and Powerflex rear control arm bushings. Might as well do them all while the motor is out.

My question is, which of the hardware below circled in orange is safely reusable?

I originally planned to replace it all, but apparently thats almost $320 worth of nuts and bolts...

Is there a better source for the generic nuts and bolts that is of acceptable quality? Porsche (sunset/pelican) prices are scribbled on the image below.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You can reuse all the bolts. The No 6 are maybe the ones you should buy new just to get fresh allen heads. The rest are used for setting the wheel alignment so they are meant to be reused.

Just a heads up. Be VERY careful with No 6! Use a new and sharp allen tool. Clean out the bolt head an be sure that the tool is fully seated. The bolt is torqued with 200 Nm 25 years ago so it can be tough and if you slip with the allen tool and damage the bolt you have big problems...

According to the workshop manual, the torque is 44 ftlb (see page 10-1). As for how to install it? Do you have a copy of PET? It shows the piston and spring orientation (see 101-05)

I am trying to remove the fog light switch, I turned it counter clockwise but it spins indefinitely and does not unscrew. Any ideas on what to do?

I've made a classic rookie error. My oil level gauge was showing between one quarter and one third full at idle, full operating temperature after proper drive. I know the dipstick is notoriously hard to read but I pulled it anyway (three times actually) and couldn't see any oil on it. So I added a litre (just over a quart US style). Now the oil level needle goes straight to the top at idle, and the dipstick reads just above the top mark. I don't track it. Just spirited street. Do I need to drain some oil? Will I damage the engine?

I have fitted 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 Super Sports on 8" and 10" wheels. No probs with speedo calibration or with ABS/AWD.

If the oil mark only just passes the top mark then I would leave it and run it down on a good drive. From new the 964 oil consumption value was given as 1.5 litres / 650 miles, so wouldn't take too long. If it still does bother you then drop some oil from the plug on the thermostat housing at the base of the oil reservior (the most accessible of the drain plugs).

Do I need to drop the engine to replace the front 2 sections of "engine tin" (aka engine capsule), or can it be done in situ? Any special tools to deal with the PS pump housing?
