Black Betty - Wheels, tyres, spacers & geometry
Once the car is back I plan a final fettle pre SPA. I've been putting this off, but here goes.
Your collective thoughts on the following setup would be great. Where I'd like most help is on tyre sizes and spacers for the new wheels.
BBS Wheels:
Front -
* 8.5J ET55 - 3mm spacer would be the same as Veloce, but 0.5J wider wheel may cause issue?
* 225/ 40 Toyo R888
Rear -
* 10J ET55 - 8mm spacer would be the same as Veloce, although we have about 5mm space between tyre and lip of arch...
* 265/ 35 Toyo R888
Veloce Wheels:
Front -
* 8J ET52 - Slight rubbing of tyre on inside wheel well on lock, fine on track.
* 225/ 40
Rear -
*9J ET47 - About 5mm space between tyre and lip of arch no rubbing at all.
*265/ 35
Geometry:
Here are my current figures.
Front axle
Castor: Left +3º00' Right +2º55'
Camber: Left & Right -0º24'
Cross Camber: -0º01
Total Toe: +0º24'
Rear axle
Camber: Left -2º05' Right -2º07'
Cross Camber: +0º03'
Total Toe: +0º30'
Here is what I'm thinking.
Front axle
Caster: +3.5 max +4.5 Although would this cause rubbing at my height or less?
Camber: - 2 More wear here.
Total toe: + 0.05 Less wear here.
Rear axle
Camber: - 2
EDIT:Total toe: +0.24
The general consensus seems to be:
Plenty of front camber.
Max caster possible.
Zero front toe.

Here is the offset calculator I use. http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp
Ok on that basis...

Pic 1 BBS standard - ET55 10J.
Pic 2 BBS with 12mm spacer - ET43 10J. Backspace 183mm.
Pic 3 Veloce with 5mm spacer - ET42 9J. Backspace 170mm. Current - fits no problem.
= 13mm more backspace/ clearance needed - issue?

I question the rear toe.
Front at zero is good...you could add just a smidge out should you feel you want a bit more at turn in - but just a smidge, which is less than a "red one".

Zero front toe is not a good idea unless your suspension bushes are solid, under heavy braking the bushes will stretch and you will actually have negative toe resulting in stability problems. 20' front and rear is about right, the rear toe gives good high speed stability.

Three Wheelin'
Hi Frank,
I can't remember what ET I have on my OZ Allegeritas, I will dig those out again...but there are spot on, I have same camber as you , 2 deg front and back, I run 8 & 9 , 225/265 , No spacers.
I had the tires when bought the rims otherwise I would have both 255 at the rear,
My point of view is less is better and probably ok even with all the power you will get soon,
I would say buy the lightest wheels as possible it makes a difference...I hink it's probably one of the best place to save weight ....( spinning weight...)

On the basis that my current setup clears at ET42.
Pic 1 BBS with 13mm spacer - ET42 10J. Backspace 182mm.
Pic 2 Veloce with 5mm spacer - ET42 9J. Backspace 170mm. Current - fits no problem.
= 12mm more backspace/ clearance needed - issue?
Hi Tim,
How's your car doing, been following on 911UK.
I'm going to keep them for the time being as road wheels.
What do you suggest Kai? How does 0.24 sound?
Have you sold your car in the end?
My issues is clearance/ backspace due to the J of the rims...
Absolutely, since I have a stock interior. I'm looking to reduce weight elsewhere - unsprung weight with the wheels...
I may one day strip the rear seats and go lightweight carpets but I'll always keep the heavy door cards.
Cheers mate. Not the most original black/ gold but I've never been too original.
How's the paint?!
Cheers gents, the BBS picture thread has no relevance
