911Jetta: I would guess that your crack is ACTUALLY 1-4mm more towards port than starboard. Hope you'll measure it very accurately and get back to all of us on this monumentally critical issue. Please hurry, as time is of the essence. CHEERS.

I've got 2 of them.
I contemplated spending some time with the plastic weld / filler and sandpaper, then touchup paint....
I decided to drive the car instead.
The permanent solution is, get a ducktail, scrap the spoiler motor and hardware, and save a couple pounds.

Some think it's because one side is closing too tightly.
" I suspect that the primary reason for most spoiler cracks is poor rigging of the spoiler position limit switches. If you extend the spoiler manually you will gain access to the limit switches and can then adjust them. They are on the left hand side were the drivegears for the spoiler are located. My down (stowed position) switch was out of position causing to much preload on the panel leading to the fracture. "

Mine is exactly in the same place. Was going to try to repair the spot when I fixed my peeling clear cote on my wing but will definitely have to check the preload adjustment first. No sense in repairing the crack to have it come back right away.

My crack is on the right side. Tried epoxy and it didn't hold as I couldn't get the two sides clamped together tight enough. So I tried some gorilla glue, the stuff that expands, and it has held up so far (for a few months). At the same time I also "repaired" my torn spoiler wall with black duct tape. Maybe that will add some stability.

So the answer to the original question is that yes, this is a common problem. It would be nice to know what the problem is. Spoiler wall, dying bearings, poor opening/closing symmetry?
If it's the spoiler wall how many people with cracks have defective or absent walls? How many know what a spoiler wall is?
