My 'RS' inspired road going 'Cupish' car project
I have been lurking with he odd post but I thought I would post my experience of 964 ownership so far.
So a month or so ago I bought a 964C2 which had some mods listed below, I have completely fallen in love with the car and planned to take it to the next level, being a stripped out road racer.
RS flywheel and clutch
Roock coilovers
RS brakes all round with RS master cylinder
Roock Cam
Upgraded throttle body
Upgraded ECU
Strut brace
De cat and G pipe
Being happy with the performance, my future mods would be around suspension and 'adding lightness'
After a Silverstone GP trackday I decided that I was happy with the handling and especially the brakes so this really focused me around the losing weight out of the car.
I got rid of the following:
wiper motor
elec windows
elec mirrors
Seats
Carpet
Door cards
Sound proofing
Trunk carpet
Speaker shelf
The car is now stripped and has some Recaro SPG seats fitted. The transformation is great and the additional engine and transmission noise makes for a real event everytime I drive the car.
Ive also added RS anti roll bars and had a geo done as well as add some OEM Cup1's and RS window mechanisms.
I will report on my latest additions soon to arrive, cage, harnesses and the big jump for me.... losing the roof for a non sunroof roofskin.
Im currently researching lighter glass, some hardcore suspension and any other ways to lighten the car.
Heres a couple of pics of the car at Silverstone.
Cheers

Lee,
some Idea's
- cup 1's are heavy - go to BBS motorsports or something else.
- Markalon Windows (rear, sides, and wings), Glass windshield is fine an there is not a lighter one made in glass.
- RS washer bottle 1L
- remove rear crash structure - replace with FVD replacements - FVD 505 016 00
- remove the front crash structure - no replacment needed. to support the bumper skin.
- remove center console move hazard switch to dash
- remove rear wind motor, fix in up wring position, remove relay and fuse
- remove fusebox cover
- remove air bags if you have them, replace steering wheel.
- replace battery with light weight alternative (odyseey 925 or smaller, Li-On better)
- repalce front boot lid with carbon fiber
- replace rear engine lid with carbon fiber (& fixed wing if you want)
- remove cat, primary, secondary mufflers, replace with custom primary muffler to meet your track noise requirements.
there is other stuff as well.

The battery is something I wanted to do soon. The 925 is suitable for everyday use?
Still lots to do!!!

Hi Lee,
it looks like you've done quite a few of the mods I'm planning on doing...I'd be interested to know where you got the RS door cards with the manual winders and what they were like to fit! I'm looking to do the same pretty soon! Oh, and I'd be interested in hearing about the roof too...I've been speaking to a few people and I've heard just replacing the sunroof with a carbon panel is as good as doing the whole skin!

I got the RS doorcards from Appbiz and the manual winders and mechanisms are RS items from Porsche. Not sure about the fitting as I had these fitted by RPM Porsche.
The carbon roof I have sold and I will be replacing with an OEM roof skin from Porsche. If you are not bothered about how the roof looks then the carbon panel will offer you a weight saving.
I am going to do the whole skin as I want the rigidity also.
Cheers

The weight saving thing is addictive!
I was taking out the remainder of the sound proofing and carpet today. I was surprised at how heavy all of this stuff is.
Cant wait to get the lightweight glass in!

on the 925 odyssey
- yes you can use it every day, you have to keep it on a battery trickle charger or you will kill it but with that you will never have an issue. I have commanly left it a week without a charge with no issues.
longer than that and it will deplete beyond cranking the car.
FVD sells markalon sets, ready to install with stock seals

Yes its thermoformed lexan mangard windows which are apparently fine for road use.
Im guessing that this is exactly what they use in the 996GT3rs.
Get some pics of yours up!
