Bodyshell polished & in the booth for detail painting of interior - whilst carefully preserving the lovely patina of racing. Doors & bonnet painted and in the process of polishing. Marc has also recovered all the parts from storage and has been cleaning up & rebinding the wiring looms today ready for the big build.

We've also had our expert Mike in to discuss the application of the Kuemmerling graphics, we're all making sure to look at any photos we can find from the races in 1990 to ensure that the exact details of the decals are correct.

Major progress this week.

Marc has been a busy beaver cleaning and rebinding the wiring looms whilst Phil has been doing the second polish of the shell now that the paint has hardened some more (oven baking hardens it 80%, time does the rest).

Me? I sourced a bottle of Kuemmerling to use for reproducing the decals......

These are awesome pics and a cool job to boot. Thank you for posting this project with the pics even with the wiring loom, this helps me out with some of my own T/S projects by both letting me see how much or how little there is to deal with, as well as bit of a confidence builder when taking things apart that I can always look here on Rennlist to see how things go together, or at least should go back together. -D

Last week Marc made a start on the assembly.

Do keep in mind that from day one we wanted this build to reflect the history of the car, hence we resisted the temptation to do an over-restoration and have left the interior with most of it's patina. You will notice the same with the running gear - everything will be steam cleaned & spotless rather than replated & repainted. We may revisit this in the future however we prefer the authenticity of the build with all the original parts exactly as raced.

... followed by brake system & dash top in preparation for final heater fit and fuel tank installation.

I should have mentioned that we're going to fit new wheel bearings and brake discs at a later stage as soon as funds are available. Yup, we also have to save up for the stuff we want!

Do we have objective proof that this is indeed the championship winning car? There was discussion about it being "the" car or another green one.

Nice work no matter what!

Fantastic Thread Colin! Thanks for the work it takes to document the process. We are slowly converting the early car faithful over at the Early S Registry to the wonders of the 964 platform. There is 60 page thread all about these cars on that forum. See below. I will also cross post this thread there.

I'm curious about the suspension you are installing on Kermit. Can you outline the struts, springs and sway bars please. Keep up the great work!!!

Thank You

Great looking build, may I ask where you sourced the glove box? Is it above the "knee pad"? I have an RSA that has a cage and have lost a working glove box......Is that some type of cupcar or RSR part?

Thanks much in advance,

All the parts that are being refitted to Kermit are the original 1990 Cup car parts that were removed, hence why a standard car may not be the same.

The booster brake set up was used on all the 964C4, 965 & 964RS models, it is only the 964C2 which does not have it as standard. I would definitely recommend this system over the stock C2 set up, so if you have the parts available I would be thinking about fitting them Tim.
