9m restoration of 1990 964 Cup "Kermit" - it's green - again!!!

Some of you regulars on the964 board will know that some time ago me and Marc took a punt and bought a sorry-looking Viper Green 1990 Trophy Cup car, chassis number 9007. Unfortunately the car was purchased through an auction from an estate sale, so it came to us without the Wagonpass, however after doing a lot of research we are now 99.9% certain that this is the only 1990 car built that was supplied inside and out in Viper Green, hence it is pretty much certain that it was the Championship winning car of that year. Anyway, time moved on, so with 2010 being the 20th anniversary of the Porsche Cup for 911 models we have been invited to run the car over to Spa and the 'Ring at the head of the Porsche Club RS register's homage, so we'd better get on with the restoration if it's going to be ready for the summer fun!

Here's a couple of photos of the car as it was and how it will look soon.

And here is what it looked like two weeks ago. The plan now is to replace the boot floor and front panel, replace the osr rear quarter (which has been previously replaced badly) and either repair or replace the nsr quarter due to poorly repaired knocks.

YAAA, awesome, I love these car so much.

With the amount of beating theses cars took, I'm interested to see that the rear has not been clipped, evidenced by the 1989/90 only rear decklid catch (round hole).

Here's the state of play today, shell on the jig, front panel and boot floor in place ready to weld. Sorry that it's a bit dark in the fab shop at the moment so I can't take any more detailed shots.

NineMeister 12-03-2009 08:39 PM

Hah, forgot about that one! You're right though, the dent is still in the top of the front wing.

:bowdown:Colin, do you ever post anything boring? Another lustmobile in the (re)making. Exactly what we need for entertainment over the winter. Thanks!

I'm hoping to soon be building a supercharged version of the 9m 3.82 litre race engine which we may decide to drop into the back of a 964 Speedster. Hey, and that's the same 964 Speedster which we will be soon fitting with the World's first set of 964 carbon brake discs which will shoe-horn inside its carbon Dymag wheels.

Will that be boring enough for you? :D
