Default The casette container - Am I missing something?

Couldn't find any topic about this, so maybe it is just me. The casette container in the center console should be able to contain 4 casette tapes, but it seems impossible to fit any tape down into the first from the left because of the edge around the whole container. So only 3 tapes can fit into the container which should be able to contain 4.. :/

Bad design or is it just me?

Yea that thing is a piece o junk. I removed all the tape holder guts then lined the inside with black felt. Now i have a nice little container to put my cell phone and stuff in.

Haven't got the car in the garage at the moment, but am pretty sure I succeeded in putting four tapes in mine - although you have to jiggle them because the mechanisms are pretty jammed. I think the one on the edge moves over a little to pop up.

Mind you, haven't listened to them since the first trip because the sound quality was so horrible.

Another popular option is to just replace it with the OEM storage tray:

Buy the tray from a Porsche dealer, it's cheaper. 964 552 159 00 for the tray and 964 552 121 00 for the rubber mat that sits at the bottom of it.

yeah- just replace the unit with the storage tray. Looks great, and is far more functional.

When I got my car I found that the previous owner had left a Dire Straits cassette in the holder, the best thing I can say about that is at least he had good taste in cars

+1 storage tray.
I was sad because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet. (...and a dash-mounted record player.)

Default Long Live Cassettes (at least in my 964)

My apologies in advance if some of the terminology in the following post is unfamiliar to our younger members...

Long ago, when I was young and single, and cassettes were the cat's a*s, I went to a lot of trouble to create about a dozen C90 tapes with all of my favourite driving music. This require labourious cueing and dubbing of hundreds of LPs but resulted in a really great music compendium. The cool thing is that a lot of this music either wasn't released on CD or was from one hit albums that I wouldn't buy a disc for today, so this would be hard to duplicate on my iPod.

Now with my 964, I have fitted a CR-210 cassette radio from a 993 along with the CDC-3 6 disc changer. With that combination, the cassette holder and a spare CD cartridge and box of tapes in the trunk I have kept the classic look of the car intact and have enough music for the longest road trip!

Oh, and Vifa, the 4 tapes all fit in the same way (thick side up) and each one should slip completely under the top cover of the tape holder before it is pushed down. It's common for the drawers to get damaged over the years so a little maintenance may be required.

Ciao!

Jim

Wow, what a blast from the past. I haven't flashed on what it took to make a great tape for a long time. It was a process, wasn't it. Thanks Jim, what fun.
