Back to weight loss, what are you guys thoughts on this product ?

Air induction pipe, RS stylee http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod48...-6-8-HP-More_2

Says it saves 4kg from rear of car which is handy and improves air flow and it certainly looks better than that moulded plastic cr*p.

Stock vs after market filter is a whole new can of worms. Do a search and you'll see.

i didnt think it replaced the filter? Its on left side of engine fan and replaces that large piece of plastic that heads off to top left of engine (in vid) I tried to watch the installation video but it gets a minute or so in then MS player says it cant continue as unsupported file or something. Any IT wizards know a get around to see the full vid?
Surely if it was an RS fitted part it should be worthwhile ? .."Replaces blower motor assembly and ductwork and still allows plenty of heat just like the factory RS part."

Rennlists search feature is unfortunately pretty rubbish. Got any links to that particular can of worms?

That part is not an induction kit. It's a rear heater blower motor bypass pipe. Essentially, you have to remove the heater blower motor and replace it with a couple of resistors. The CF tube pictured on the website justs replaces the ducting that normally goes to the blower motor. No significant advantage in the CF over the stock plastic part except cosmetically as all the weight savings are in removing the motor. Beware that not all environmental control units will function correctly even if the resistors are in place (early models). Aggain there are a number of threads on this.

yeah just been trawling through the search threads. I didnt realise you would need to remove the motor assembly and then replace with resistors etc...why is nothing ever simple for a layman ?
I also noted it affects getting heat into the car, not so handy in the UK !

The weight saving does sound good though, not to mention de-cluttering the engine bay

I had considered it as well, my car being a fairweather/weekend/club drive but it's a '90 so apparently the control unit will not work properly.

it looks like Thomas and others are in the process of solving that problem in their heat bypass thread ("my rear fan bypass") in this forum at present by putting jumpers on the relay. Hope they come up with a good and easy fix

guys, the "jumping fix" works just fine. I still have a 2 sec glitch when I go up to fan speed 4 with the heat on but it all works. No one else seems to have this glitch. So forget all about those resistors and stuff. Install the bypass tube, put som tape around the lose connectors and make the jumper cables instead of the relay. All set!

Mark is referring to my thread "my new bypass box" where it looks like we have found an easy fix if you want to replace the rear blower with the bypass pipe and still have a working CCU. In this thread you will find some pics and how to do it.

Jeff,

Sorry it took so long to respond. On the contrary, I think the block-off plate looks great (see below)! IIRC, they are (were) not expensive ($20 +/-). I've considered trying Rennline's new panel, and moving the center switches up to the dash, but that may have to wait until next winter.

BTW, since I opened my mouth earlier, my car is back, and officially weighs 2,639 lbs, no driver, 1/4 tank fuel, all other fluids. I'm pumped!

Best regards,

Dave

demon,

I'm guessing close to 50kg of that is due to the switch to CF front and rear lids, and the sunroof delete. Not the least expensive options, but certainly made a huge difference.

One more gratuitous shot, since it was such a nice day today (and supposed to be snowing tomorrow)!
