964 engine mounts
#64
So Geoffrey the 993 engine parts work on a 964 then? They are 1/2 the price here in the UK, being about £85 each rather than £160? Seems a substantial saving if we can corroborate that they are functionally the same.

I've now seen the light after a test drive
The ride quality has improved dramatically. Before, on bumpy roads the rear of the car felt like it oscillated up and down. Even over small bumps I used to get thudding noises that reverberated through the cabin. The thudding has now gone and the rear settles almost instantly. More impressive is what the new mounts have done for the gear shifting. Until now I'd thought of the box as being 'notchy'. I often had difficulties engaging 2nd gear when braking hard. Now the shifts are slick both up and down the box. All in all a major improvement in the driveability of the car.

Very interesting thread. Why do the factory mounts have different part numbers L & R? Physically they look identical. Does it have something to do with the added weight of the A/C compressor, or with the engine rotation?

When I took my new mounts out of the box I noticed that each had the left (964 375 049 00) and right /964 375 050 00) part numbers stamped on the top. The also had 965 part numbers on. Once out of the box the only way telling which was which was because L and R had been written on by the factory. Therefore my guess is that fluid inside is different?

After getting the car back from a service, the mechanic described my engine mounts as 'the worst he'd ever seen on a 964'. So last week I had a check.
Ooops. (Bad quality = cameraphone)
Pretty bad, so I obtained a pair of the Wevo mounts with blue pillows and fitted over the weekend.
Easy job and only took around 1.5 hours including tea break. The only tricky part was on the passenger side since the exhaust is in the way from underneath but a UV joint on the ratchet solved that.
Also had to adjust the tailpipe since it was touching the rear bumper after the engine was raised (about 1 inch difference between the failed mounts and the new).
Impressions: Well the car feels a lot tighter at the back and agree with boxsey911 that the gear shift is vastly improved under load and braking.
Haven't really noticed a difference in noise levels with the Wevo mounts but this may be because I have a cab.

They are different solely due to the fitted angle of the square location peg on the bottom of the mount.
From what I remember the rear beam on the 964 engine has a rectangular location slot on both ends, one lateral and one longitudinal, therefore the pegs are angled differently to accommodate the mirror image fit of the mount in the chassis.
