YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEE
can you tell i'm happy.IT WORKS. A VERY BIG THANK YOU to Pete, tried your software version and it worked first time. I have a Blat flattery so that's stopped play for now but did get to check that it responded to inputs before the battery died, wot works :-)). One thing that I did notice that i will double check ,the software I had from doug did not have a config(i think) but yours does. Now maybe it got lost and maybe that might be the cause of my software not working. I will test the theory when i have a nice recharged battery.

Very glad to hear it works! One thing don't get carried away like I did & assume that the ABS on my car was "diagnostic capable" 'cos it wasn't. Not sure what car you have but I have a feeling from PCGB that you also have a 964 RS. The C2 & RS both use the same ABS control module which has no diagnostic capability. This is not clear from the Porsche manual which was of course written for the C4. I only found out when tracing the K & L lines & found that of course they went no where near the ABS controller.

Hopefully then I shall soon have a spare working converter.

See you are working hard today just like me!

Pete

Yep 964RS the Yellow one that was on the front cover of Porsche Post a while ago along with Dessies car at the ring. On night shift this week, hence some time during the day for play. The config thing was a red herring had a look and it's there.

Laurence

Laurence and Pete,
Thanks for all the hard work getting this going. Can you summarize your setup so others can replicate?

Simple use Doug's moddified version of software with Andy Whittakers obd interface with the link set to always enabled. How you connect to the cars diag port is up to you.Connect k to pin 8 L to pin 7 and 12v and ground to 13 and 10. use a standard 9 way serial cable to connect pc to interface. When I get some time i will post some pics of the working unit and maybe some screen shots. If you build the board yourself you will need some electronics skills (soldering etc). The pc i am running the software on is a Pentium 3 800mhz with win xp.
ALL of the HARD WORK was done by DOUG I think and i think Pete will agree..

Hi Laurence, not all RSs like to go round & round, some like to go up & down, so I will not be at Spa as I am more into hillclimbing than circuits.

This is my sophisticated connector!

And yes I agree. Many many thanks to Doug for his hard work & "giving away" his software. I just hope that nobody comes along and exploits it commercially.

I assume that that is the one that Laurence is using. It is the one that I have just ordered as a spare.

The one I have been using that works is the one that was supplied with VW-Tool a few years ago.

The interface in the link is the one I am using. If you buy the interface ready made then the "challenge" is connecting it to the PC and the car. As you can see from Pete's pic it requires a degree of improvisation for the connection. If you can follow whats been said about set up in the thread then you'd probably be ok. PC comm ports can be a pain but there are a few basic checks that can be done to at least confirm that things are working . It's not a complete hammer replacement but for C2 and RS owners it's the next best thing.

Or you can work with John Speake (Rennlist Sponsor) and sightly modify his
unit (928 version) to work with a 964, i.e. not a "Mickey Mouse" effort.

I'm interested in John Speake's approach to this issue, but which sponsor is he? I went through the 928 sponsor listings and didn't see him. If you can provide a bit more info...

John's version works ok, he had one or two little anomolies when he visited me, but I should imagine they are worked through by now, and his retails at about £400 IIRC.

I had done some emailing to John on buying a Hammer but by his web site the 928 tester doesnt work on the 964. Maybe I will email him again and see if it is now working for our cars. I actually never asked him about that.
I am getting a Hammer or something else very soon so looking at all options.

It should be a very simple task for John Speake to integrate the 964 codes and
the software interface since the coding is available now. The 928 guys seem
very happy with his unit. He's there in the U.K. too which should further help.
