Diag interface & Software

I've had good luck with Gregg's interface (schematic supplied with Doug's software). I couldn't get the Sipex chip, so made some minor changes to use a Max232 chip.

Just some pictures testing the interface. Not very pretty, but works. Pretty comes later. I'm in two minds whether to cast a plug in resin, or machine one from plastic. The snipped resistor is R9 on Andy's interface (see previous post re: poor serial data levels from laptops). The ECU looks good, but I've some climate control issues to sort!

I have an HP Compaq laptop without a serial port :-(( Maybe thats why the software does not want to run on it.
Will a 9-pin serial to USB convertor work? Else I will have to use my work laptop which has a serial port.
Just messing about with Andy's interface hooked up to com1 on my desktop machine produces no connection on the software. Is this correct? I assume I need 12V and some signal input to simulate.

The fault codes on your climate control are most likely bogus. The CCU is very slow to "wake up" when probed by the scantool or the hammer, and a refresh or clearing the faults then re-scanning will likely show no faults.
I think dfinnigan covered this in his recent hammer thread.

I picked up a USB convertor from a local computer shop for $15 and it functions just as a serial port. Has a driver CD to make the proper com port stuff in Windows. Works in 2k and XP.. I run my old GPS, newer GPS, and other serial stuff off it fine.

Hi robbed666,
Great pictures. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words.
I have bought an Andy Whittaker interface as a spare. I have had the same problem as you with L line not switching to 0v with both laptop & desktop PCs. Glad to see only led on L line needs cutting out, I had assumed K line led needed cutting also. Bit wet here so just bench testing it at the moment.
