94 Widebody C4 Coupe, Guards Red, Manual
Purchased April 2013
Boston, MA USA
$22,500
Interior:10
Exterior:9, some chips, a little paint work, overall great for a car that is 20 years old with 119000K. No rust
Mechanical:9 Everything works, engine rebuilt, two minor leaks, no leakage on garage floor at all, not a drip, my guess non-use related, but they are there. Clutch needs a little attention, shifts too close to the floor. Windshield replaced, many new seals. Needs engine bay insulation replaced. Overall I give it a 9+-10, it's a driver.
Tool kit: yes
Inflator: yes
Paperwork:7+, receipts from previous owner and some others back to 2000, previous owner spent @30K on engine rebuild, new clutch
Thinking about making my first purchase relatively soon and I think the above suggestion is a great idea. I'll be compiling all the posts in this thred into a data table and will post some of the trends in the next couple of days. Any other sources for this type of information that I could incorporate would be greatly appreciated!

I put this together for the 993 thread in March. Took forever but the result turned out nicely:
I ran through this quickly, so I only captured the details I considered most important. Most are self-explanatory. For "Overall Score" I just eyeballed the four scores given and came up with a rough estimate average. Also I failed to distinguish between the reds, did not realize until it was too late that there were two different ones (I just started shopping for a 993 about 2 days ago, rookie mistake).
I am a Google Docs beginner so its not very pretty or functional but you can copy it out to Excel and manipulate it as you wish.
I wish I had time to do the same for this thread. Anyone want to give it a shot?
I am glad I found this thread.. I am searching for a clean 964 that won't break the bank and this has really helped me get a better grip on what people are paying for them. Thanks for keeping this thread alive guys!

man can i find a decent C2 manual for 25k sub 100k miles? if anyone hears of one please give me a shout
cheers

What is going on with 964 prices? Have they appreciated this much in a couple of years. I got mine for $18K with 93K miles back in early 2011. At the time, sub 100k mile manual coupes were all over the place for that price point. I recently put mine for sale for $25K and I've got serious inquiries aplenty. I think I'm going to take it off the market and let it appreciate some more. This is killer!
Many of them are going for the high 20's now especially C2 manual Coupes, but many of them are dog eared and definitely not worth the money being asked for them.
But if you want one, you have to put in a lot of research and eventually the right car will turn up, but you'll probably pay more than you expected and then some more to make it the car you were expecting to buy in the first place.
A few really nice cars have appeared on Pelican and here too, but unless you are looking as if it was you job, the chances are you'll miss it as the good ones are sold in hours!
Tell us more, what have you seen that's discouraging you.
What ever you look at, 964, 3.2 Elise, unless its only a few years old there will things that need attention and you have to be prepared for that.
i drove a few 64, 3.2... leaky motors, soft floaty tired suspension, very poor throttle response during tip in. i know these are dated cars but itsnot quite like what i remember with these cars at all.
to fix a valve cover leak would be as much as an used toyata vibe/matrix drivetrain here in the usa. elise are pretty darn reliable other than a few plastic interor parts hear and there. ive driven a whole slew of them.
