I've got the opposite problem. I have a 964 but would gladly trade it for a Lotus elise. Love my 964 but love the exotic styling, and from what I've heard, phenomenal handling and quickness of the elise. Furthermore, I've heard maintenance on the elise is much more affordable. Anyone out there that can honestly talk me out of the elise v. the 964?

maybe you need to buy an elise, or spend a lot of dough to fix up your 964 if it's worth it.

given the low power the elise its a phenomenon weapon on the circuit. Ive driven a dozen of the elise based cars and S1 exige Cup racer, opel speedster, S1, S2 turboed, exige etc…in my humble opinion its probably the most focus track car one can buy out of the dealership in recent memory. Having said that its also the worst road car.

The thing is, im smitten with the 964. It has a perfect combination of old school charm of the early cars while being modern enough to drive in todays environment. Lets just say ive got severe 911 fever and would be a purchase from the heart. Let me know if you are interested in selling your 964?

Warm regards

One thing you will miss from an air cooled 911, is the wonderful sound track.

They are in classes really, whilst both can be used for the same purposes, the Elise is that much smaller, may be louder, but not in a good way.

I came very close to buying a series 2 car, set up for the track 300 bhp. I never drove it, but I think I can guess what it was like and just thinking about it now gets me excited.
I didn't go through with it as I decided it was not for me at that time. However, I think I would buy one as another ride, not as a replacement for the 911.

A friend of mine had a S2 Elise, loved it, but bought the Europa as he found the Elise too unrefined and noisy. He really rates the Europa, his wife doesn't though, but thats another story.

Wish you had concidered months ago. I sold my second s111 car ( had an exige and a supercharged elise).
Maintenance is dirt cheap. Parts are cheap. Its fairly simple to work on. Bodywork is delicate, but its a fairly tough car. The transmission is the only let down in terms of feel, and accuracy.

My problem is that most of the lotus elises out there are low to mid $30K price range and I'll be doing good to get $25K for my 964. I'm in no shape to "trade UP" at this time.

Top is not working at all. But the seller, Bob Caldwell, gave me an "IOU" on the top repair. After 5 hours of driving, there is no oil leak on the ground, but the bottom was wet. Power Steering is really weak, the PO might have done something to it. Will have local Porsche deal check out everything again. (EDIT: Top was fixed, Dealer paid the fees)

So I'm new here and don't have a 964 yet but I'm a firm believer in karma and paying it forward. I've actually compiled all the data into an Excel file minus a couple of insane statistical outliers and those that don't have the majority of the questions answered. Grand total of 283 entries. I don't have a google account that I actively use (massive paranoia) so was wondering if you guys would want it as an attachment or if someone would like to create a google docs spreadsheet and upload the file. Let me know what works for you guys. Hopefully karma will smile upon me and find me a favorably priced 964 C2 coupe manual. =P

Best of both worlds, I have a pretty hardcore S1 Elise and should be (hopefully all going well with PPI) picking up a 964 C4 tomorrow!

Elise is so much more fun to drive, but nowhere near as practical and comfortable.

I am greedy I know!
