I've got a factory shift **** drilled and filled with steel shot and epoxy. You can't tell from looking at it that anything was done to it. I've also shortened the factory shift lever by 1.5" and have Kyle's short shift kit and ball joint pivot linkage at the transmission. It's a nice, crisp, short throw.

Yup, for the weight which makes the throw so much nicer. I was going to use lead shot, decided I liked my brain capacity to remain where it was. Ideally I'd like a shift **** machined from billet tungsten!

My original **** was worn (leather all worn away) so I ordered what I thought was an OE **** from Pelican. Turns out it *looks* just like the OE **** but it's not - it's rubber under the leather instead of the aluminum (?) of the factory ****. So it's a lot lighter... and the shift feel just isn't the same. I miss the heavier factory ****.
Maybe I'll stuff some heavy pellets or something in there.

Jim, it's a great deal heavier than stock. I can weigh it and find out exactly how much heavier, but its a substantial difference. I used (I think) #4 shot which is 3.3mm pellets, there are several ounces stuffed into the ****. I pried off the shift pattern cap and hole sawed the ****. Combined with my shorter shift rod and only944 goodies, its the nicest shifting 944 I've ever felt. Like you, the leather being pretty much junk was what prompted me to put it under the knife.
