Maybe even a biggish Naca vent in reverse so it's an outlet.

A couple of thoughts -

Stick some paper towels in the intake ports NOW. (or cover them with tape). Things love to find their way into open intake ports!!

The block girdle does not look flush to the block where the oil pump mounts. If so this is a problem.

Cam Cap torque is critical! its a good idea to try and spin the cams before adding the chain. Just a small amount of over torque will lock the cams inplace.

seal up everything on the engine that is open - you can never be too clean or too careful while assembling an engine.

Thanks for the thoughts Chris but i've done the following:

Removed the tape on the intake ports for the pictures, they are covered with tape at all times, except when i'm taking pictures!

Camcap's are torqued to 20Nm (15ftlb) as mentioned in the 944 engine manual.

All holes which are opened are only opened for the pictures, whenever i'm working on the engine or i'm away from i all holes are covered!

And about the girdle; as far as i know it's perfectly aligned but i'll check this evening. If it's not, the engine will go back to the builder and the can check it again!

Good job on keeping it sealed!

In one picture it looks like you can see a lip where the girdle meets the block as the area where the oil pump will mount. It might just be an optical trick in the picture - but its worth checking out.

I noticed the same thing. It looks like 2-3mm it's sticking out by.

Checked it last evening; it's perfectly aligned with the block but because it can out of the bath cleaner it looks a bit different on tbe picture!

Got the oil cooler apart yesterday and cleaned it up, put it back together and mounted it. Tonight the balance shafts will be done and maybe the oil pan (temporarily).

Still have to get the baffle in (anyone ideas?) and make an extra bracket for the oil suction tube

How did you paint the calipers? They look great. I must do the same to my calipers..
