Turbo has a leaky water pipe. That's now at the fabricator getting fixed.

Car is running! Seems like it's having a little issue with backfiring, here's what the note the mechanic sent me. Any ideas?

"Car is running. Idles decently but it does not accept quickly opened throttle w/o backfiring.

Chip board is set all on except #3.

Map isn't hooked up yet. Not sure what effect that has other than boost control."

Josh,
Replied to your email. I'll post here as well...

If you are running a V-FLEX image, the MAP sensor MUST be connected to the DME. When running V-FLEX, the DME will detect a disconnected MAP sensor (or pinched line) and will trigger fail-safe by killing timing. Not sure if this is what you are experiencing.

With V-FLEX, the MAP sensor is used to alter ignition timing (it can also be used for boost control). The main function is ignition!

If it's backfiring from the exhaust, it's rich!..
The followings should be checked:

- fuel pressure to 3bar,
- FQS should be set correctly
- TPS is functioning correctly
- O2 sensor is operational
- If you have the PB in place, make sure no "funny" values in there.

Got it. Thought it had something to do with the vflex and MAP sensor and I sent those suspicions to the shop. Thanks for the support and I'll forward your reply!

edit: Shop just replied, car runs well when not on the vflex map, so you're right on the money John. The MAP sensor needs to be installed and all should be good!

Well, had to pull the car out of the other mechanic's shop. It didn't pass smog and he didn't finish the installation or trouble shoot what had already been done.

I spent some time doing some small projects, than sent it over to a different shop last week to get finished.

So far they've gotten the boost solenoid, MAP sensor and SMT6 installed, along with my gauges. They had to replace the headlite relay, as the lites were going nuts.

There's a charging issue somewhere, as the alternator charges here and there. There are also some vacuum leaks to address. These are probably causing some of the running issues...

Those are next up, then getting it past smog, then setting the boost maps and tuning the fuel.

Hopefully have it back up and running and completely finished next week.

+1, I remember when the car was advertised for sale, and the seller said it was good to go...doesn't help that his PPI was ****, too...

Hope you get her sorted soon Doc!

Yeah, good to go with a bunch of maintenance! Some of things I've done were preventative, but the oil pan gasket, motor mounts, charging issue and timing belt were immediate needs that HAD to be done right away.

I still can't believe the PPI missed the oil pan gasket and timing belt...

Update! Car is running well, the intake manifold wasn't on tightly enough, causing all sorts of idle and A/F issues.

MAP sensor, boost solenoid, gauges, boost map switching switch (extra mirror control switch) installed.

Car should get A/F and boost maps set and tuned, AC charged, charging issue fixed and smogged, then it'll be done!
