Hmmm, build progress...
Well, got the car at the shop and up on the rack. Turns out the PPI I paid for was basically worthless. They missed several known 951 problem areas like the fact the oil pan gasket was leaking badly and that the balance shaft and timing belts were extremely loose along with a bad timing belt tensioner.
So along with some other maintenance that was going to get done, the decision was made to do this.
Which was a good idea, as it made getting at the clutch fairly trivial. Which was good because this is what the guide tube looked like.
So lots of maintenance will be getting done, the oil pan gasket, rod bearings, front belts, motor mounts, balance shaft housing getting sealed up, new clutch, etc.

Brings back memories of my purchase. The known list of items was smaller than the found in process list. That stand looks nice. Is it a standerd stand . I have never seen a motor out to see what others have used. Is there a plan/print for it?

Don't know what stand that is, it's the shop owners. He used to race 944 turbos for years, so he knows what needs to be done to make them reliable on the track.
I'm less than pleased with the shop that did the PPI right now. Only good thing is that the clutch badly needed to be done and with the motor out I'm saving quite a bit in labor vs the "standard" way.

i agree ask for a refund if its not given then tell everyone what the dealerships name is. Do you have documentation of the PPI and what they checked? Ususally they give written reports signed (atleast the good ones do)

Very nice stand, like someone that really is into the 944 thing. Looks like model built. Excellent.
Also answered a question I was pondering. Engine is on the stand and awaiting install and couldn't decide if cross over ( std.one piece) could go on first. Obviously since comes out in one piece then must ...........

The shop owner where the car is now used to race 951's for many years. I bet he built that engine trolley for himself while working on his race car.
I did get a written report from the shop that did the PPI, no mention was made of the loose timing/balance shaft belts, bad timing belt tensioner, shot axles, front end shimmy when the brakes are hit, leaky oil pan gasket, etc.
I've asked for a refund and haven't heard anything back. If I don't get a refund by tomorrow, I'll let everyone know what shop it was.
