They bolt right up with an '86 caliper too.
Sorry to take this off track but this will only take a moment.
The bare minimum you need to swap an '86 to '87+ spindles are the spindles, hubs, and '87+ rotors. The '86 calipers fit just fine, the tie rods fit just fine, everything else fits just fine.

What do you see as the advantages of running these calipers Bruce?

No rotors you mentioned are smaller than 996 ones, at lest if you use 6-pot version of rotors. We use 996/997 Turbo rotors. If you use GT3 one you need a small spacer between hub and rotor.Of course adapters can be made for GT3 rotors, but then Turbo ones will not fit.

I posted this in an earlier Thread..
I believe the difference is the MO30 hubs/spindles mount the brakes radially. (Bolts from top of the caliper) This is why the 993tt, 928gts brakes bolt right on those. its the proper mount. An adapter for the 996tt mono blocks would be very difficult to do since the only difference would be a slightly wider mounting bolt spacing (Than the 993tt calipers) that might not be enough difference to clear the origin holes. Those would have to be filled in with weld, and new ones drilled and tapped.. Not easy.
The Stock brakes for a non M030 951 mount axially. (from the side) So a fairly simple "L" bracket is all that is required to adapt. So in that sense, Mo30 difficult. regular old '87 up easy.
I would like to add that the '86's are different in that they need a completely different back spacing on the rotor than any of the newer models. And of course, they're a huge pain in the *** to remove/replace compared to the newer ones. Correction.. 1986 needs a different caliper adapter than the newer models.

Problem with M030 car is (as 95one wrote) is the fact both M030 spindles and monoblock adpaters have radial attacment points. 1987-1988 turbos have axial attachment in it's spindle, so its easy to fabricate a radial/axial type of adapter
If you would like to use monoblocks with M030 type of spindle you must place calipers a little bit different angle as usually. This mainly because there is only few mm's difference in monoblock and M030 attacment holes. I would not recommend any kind of welding to change spindle to accept monoblock caliper directly.
1985-1986 models can use the same adpater. You must adjust backspacing with rotor. So you need a different kind of rotor here. Just make a special hat where you have adjust back spacing.
