guys - bad news...

i received some second hand audi/bentley coils and checked the fitment - they are a few mm to short.. ;[

iirc mine were 07C905115D

they ''seemed'' to fit, but there was no ''click''' after pushing all the way into the head, so i checked outside... i was really hoping they would be a p'n'p cop solution..

anyways - any ideas? longer spark plugs maybe?

probably fabricating a longer spark plug cap can solve this.. but it's not a little difference tbh..

True.. But having to fabricate one.. Should be better to buy a coil that fits..

dont your spark plugs have a top terminal (where the wire fits) that unscrews?
couldnt you just add a thread-on male/female spacer there and lengthen the plug??

it does, it's actually what i meant by 'spark plug cap' however ii'm not sure its safe, as i would need double its length..

I test-fitted the 6.0 W12 ones from 2004 Phaeton and they fitted just fine. These were the exact ones:

I test fitted mine to a 16v head from 944s, with bosch sparkplugs, and as i said - they seemed to fit, sat tight but would not "click", since they were unable to reach sparkplugs' mounting line..

can you check the exact part number of your coils? it's supposed to be on the upper side of the power cord port
and the type of sparkplug you use?

edit: btw my coils look like they are the exact same unit you got, but only part number will tell..

There was no click like with stock plug wires and even with my FSI coils there is no click even though they sit as low as they can (still ~10mm's clearance to head).

Regarding part number, I have sent these coils along with VEMS unit to California already a month ago, I would have to contact a gent who bought these for part number).

EDIT: I see from the photos you have that the plugs are 16mm and the hexagons are sunk inside the metal surrounding but Porsche 16v head uses 21mm plugs and as you see from the photo in stock plug wire you do not have the plug sunken in the connector. There should be no issues.

Just got my coils as well, the 0 986 221 050 Bosch parts
The spark plugs i have are also a bit too short, i'm hoping to find 5-10mm longer ones so i can also rotate the coils all to the top so the connectors and cabling can run from the top.

Raceboy - I took two identical sparkplugs from a wastepile, so you may be right these are not necessarily compatible with the head, but i've done it only to compare true length with sparkplug mounted. It does not change the fact, that when i put the coil on the head, there is no "click", but when i put a plug outside of head, to check full mount, it clicks just like any other.. Furthermore - when mounted in the head, the coil's plastic part sits directly on the valve cover deck, which is a mm or two higher than the stock cable - exactly like on the lenght comparison photos i posted.. so there's no way they fits completely, unless the conducting pin at the plug side of the coil is sprung or something which i doubt.. i will doublecheck everything and most likely at the beginning of next week, fabricate a longer cap for the sparkplug, unless ofc i find a longer sparkplug with the same parameters..

tbh - i really hope i am wrong, and that it will fit anyways but it's doubtful to say the least
