Tire size does not matter (the tachometer/speedometer will always show the same numbers - no matter what tire you have).
If his speedometer is correct, he will be able to drive his car at 300 kph+ (186mph+) at 6000 rpm. A 951 with stock gearing is not close to doing that.
But I guess it is possible that his speedometer is very wrong, then he could have stock gearing.

The fastest I have had it in 6th was 285kph on the sat nav and about the same on the speedo (I use Tom M'Guinn's Speedobooster to calibrate the speedo), but I ran out of room to go any faster (that was on a relatively short closed airfield).
The tall 6th gear helps significantly with fuel efficiency and quiet high-speed cruising on the Autobahnen I regularly visit, at least when they are not crowded like they are 95% of the time.

What rpm was that at Thom? Also, is this with the RS gearing? Did the front end feel loose?

I do not think so.

thom's picture is about 2100rpm which would require a 27.5" diameter tire (which is unlikely to fit very well on a 944) so his gearing is different, you are right.
but it sounds like its a 968 gearbox anyways so this is irrelevant

No matter what tyres you put on, the speedometer and tachometer will show the same (the relation between speedometer and tachometer will not change depending on tyre size).
What will change when you put on bigger or smaller tyres, is the real speed (the speedometer and tachometer will not change).

I do not use the RS/NA gearing, it is way too short. My 5th is the same as the 951 5th, to give you an idea of how tall my 6th is.
Yes the front end felt loose, but's that mainly because the rear end still squats from light throttle inputs as the engine is running in its sweet spot at that kind of rpm.

My 1989 944 Turbo 3.0L car
Well I guess I should post about my 3.0L turbo car and see if I can get added to the exclusive list, so here goes in no particular order:
(3.0 Core from '92 968)
Cross Drilled and Plugged crank
Pauter Rods
Wossner Pistons 104.5 (36cc Dish)
'89 2.7L head honed (Lindsey Racing Level II Head)
274 Web Cam
Super 65 P-Trim turbo extrude honed and thermal coated (Lindsey Racing)
3" Downpipe
3" Fab Speed exhaust
G-Reddy boost Controller
The car made 410 to the rear wheels during dyno tuning @ just shy of 16 PSI
Any questions please let me know.
Thank you,
Chad

Actually Thom yes
I posted a while back on my build but forgot to update my post to say it was complete (engine components at least). Car has been fabulous and since my last post i've taken it to Hawaii with me and back, made additional updates etc. Here's the funny bit, I'm now in the process of trying to sell it ;(
Breaks my freakin heart, car is a monster and has never let me down. only about 10k on new engine, no issues or problems with the engine at all. If anyone is interested jump over to the marketplace to check out additional stuff, build components etc.. https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...951-turbo.html

My 3L 8V crossed the 80000 km (49720 miles) mark 2 weeks ago.
Am I the only one piling on the miles troublefree? Has everybody gone cold with driving their cars since the values have increased?

My motor has just over 30k miles now, and just over 100k on the odometer. I'm still driving it for all it's worth. Fall weather is good for these cars -- cold air and dry roads, at least until the rain comes...

My 3.1L Hybrid stroker is approaching the end of its fourth year. 8K miles, 8 track weekends, and countless AutoX events. Heading to the Road Atlanta this weekend for its 9th track weekend.
