we will probably have to take blame as well for not changing the rod bearings earlier too. I might have some pics today or tomorrow of the oil pan to see where it actually blew apart, which should give some indication of which one went.

Anyone have a right rear tail light and marker light lying around, we need both - the fire sort of put a nice frosty coating on both.

What oil were you using if I may ask?

On that particular weekend I also developed a fairly significant cam cover leak (had no idea). Due to parking in grass I never saw it and with a neighbor burning more oil than the valdez, I never thought it was me I smelled.

In any event, I spun the bearing on the last lap of the last session of the day. So...Was very likely mine was caused by cornering forces starving the engine because the level was low. My Bad...My Money.
Know that feeling. I can only blame myself too. You know anatomically, it's really hard to kick your own ***.

Oh and those that are interested in trying to prevent it happening again, shoot Dave / evil 944t an email. He has a few solutions.

87 pan with LR baffle kit. The video in my third session, you can see the camera vibrate on full throttle just a bit when compared to the first two sessions. Thats when I brought the car in to check CV joints, check wheel weights, etc; little did we know.

depending on Jim's week, should have pics by Thursday or this weekend. I'm shipping him an 89 pan and some shot peened rods with ARP hardware today, along with a Chris Cervelli fabbed pick up tube assembly that I had rat holed.

That's one of Daves solutions Brian. I'm going this route but he does offer another cheaper alternative if the budget doesn't quite stretch to d/sump. I've got the pan at the workshop and it's is a piece of art to behold. Very smart!

I made a DVD yesterday of the whole sessions, but for some reason, my computer won't recognize the DVD I made. I'll try later today or tomorrow.

Nice one. I'd love to see them if only to remember what a track looks like.

Sorry to hear the news. Just some questions out of curiosity.
Type/grade oil?
How frequently was it changed?
Oil level? At the top mark, or higher?

VR1 20/50, changed after every weekend, full, with an extra 1/3 of a quart. Should have changed rod bearings last year but we'll change them every year from now on, 3.5 years on it, lots of double duty weekends. Some of those were even back to back but we try to get the car, when at the track together, split in between run groups.
