Default Best oil filter for 951's -- yeah, I know it sounds stupid

Hi all,

So yes, I HAVE done a search, and came up w/ a few discrepancies. Anyway, none of my previous cars have been as particular as this one when it comes to parts. W/ my previous cars, all I worried about when changing the filter was not to use a Fram.

Anyway -- and I realize how stupid this might sound -- is there an 'ideal' brand of oil filter to use?

I'm coming up on my oil change and don't wanna get screwed.

Again, yes, I know this sounds stupid, but I never want to be caught w/ my pants down.

TIA
Collin

I try to get a Purolator One, Mobil 1, or Wix if I can...I have about 6 Mahle filters left on the shelf and had problems with the anti-drain back sections on 2 out of 3. They were all bought in the same lot and the check valves seemed to work for only about 2000 miles in Summer. I knew the valve was leaking when I got lifter noise at start-up in the morning. The Purolator doesn't do it at all between oil changes. Just my opinion and nothing more.

My .02. I went for the L/R billet filter housing and 8 micron elements.

Are you talking about the drop-in mod that Lindsey makes? Definitely cuts down on potential oil spillage...

Also, how many changes does the 8 micron element typically last?

I actually use the 928 filters. They are bigger and have more filtration.

Do they drop in without any modification?

How sure are you guys about the 928 not having a drainback valve? I have been using mahle "OC75's" and never noticed any difference in building pressure. Many other people are doing this as well.

Been a few threads on Rennlist over the years and that was the general concensus...

What would happen if you used a filter without a check valve? I thought it was only to make oil changes less messy?

Takes longer to get oil pressure at startup.
