Summer? Try April

It's going to be at the BlownEuroz meet in Philly I posted, and then it'll disappear for a week and be back again. With how often I am in Buffalo, and seeing as how I know you'll find some random part you need and I'll have it, I'm sure I'll see you before summer

Another small update, though I'm not sure why I continually post "Small update" they all are small picture wise despite the hours upon hours I spend in the garage. heh.

Anyway...

Stripped out wheel well, with the 4 studs remaining to mount the fender liner (which I havent used in years).

So I cut all the studs off and grinded them metal fender well down flush.

Ready to paint.

A HUGE step forward.

The 968 brake scoops Ive been using in conjunction with the big ducts to the hats. Need to grab some new hardware and put those on tomorrow.

Passangers side, painted but waiting to dry.

Tomorrow I'll be installing the steering rack, passangers suspension, and front sway. Hoping to also pull the dash and start rewiring and maybe finish stripping undercoating in the rear. Big list, let's see how much I actually get done.

How are you painting in your garage with no heat? Isn't it supposed to be something like 60* to paint?

I don't know how you do it. My garage is in the 40*s and I can't stand to stay out there for more than an hour. I must be getting soft and squishy in my old age... You are being just too damn productive!

Tim, it comes off in granule form, so there is no weighing it. Jim, a warm paint can, and a warm chassis go a long way, but other than that no heat. Not exactly recommended specs for painting but I havent had a problem with it in 2 winters of painting parts like that.

Propane + Wire wheel on a drill for the underbody stuff. The grinder is just to smooth down sharp edges and remove studs.

Drill?? holy crap Mike - you are a determined fellow.

Have you tried a wire wheel on your grider. Suspect would make that job much quicker.
In fact if you get a firm enough wire wheel I suspect you would not even need heat, but a real mess for sure.

Geeze - you are an animal!

I'm not sure why I didnt think of that... but I feel like an idiot now.

I guess when I attack the rear wheel wells (this week) and what's left of the floor pan (at a later date) I'll try that.

I have one here that is like 8" in diameter (looks kinda like a cone), and I use on huge body grinder.....

it'll try to rip your arms off if it catches an hard edge, but it's take the rust/paint/undercoating/etc in no time to bare metal.

I wont be sand blasting, as I'm not redoing the whole chassis right now. Certain bits are being kept.

Today's update, got a TON done today, started working with suspension and went from there.

Got the passangers front suspension in after an extra coat of black.

Motor mounts and steering rack install, after cleaning up the steering shaft and greasing the u-joints.

That was hung up though by a snapped off bolt in the 3 piece crossmember where the steering rack bolts up. As I bought the piece "slightly" used it wasnt a huge deal, just about 40 minutes of drilling and using easy outs.

Tossed a wheel on just for fun

Started stripping the interior out again, removed the HVAC (which was full of leaves and what not, see the following photo) Started working on the wiring. I talked with my wiring guy (haha, my father) and he's going to help me create a new harness for the car, it's basically going to retain lights, wheel stalks, cooling fans, gauges, and that's about it. So we're removing the factory fuse box.

Nasty HVAC stuff, weighed in at 33lbs.

So yeah, that's about it for today, I did do some underbody stripping in the rear of the car, but nothing to make note of. Probably going to attack the wiring again tomorrow.
