Default Speedline 3.6 wheels

Would a set of Speedline 3.6 wheels 18x8 and 18x10 fit my car? I have a 88 Turbo S . The offset on the wheels is 52 front and 61 rear. Couldnt i just use a 13mm spacer to get my stock offset or would i need new studs for that much? What tire package would you guys reccomend for that setup? Thanks Andrew

It will be a direct bolt-on. You can go 225-40 in fronts and as much as 285-30 rear.
Good luck.

Porsche has never recommended 18" wheels on the 951. However they had recommended upgrading the rear caster blocks to 968 style (951 upgrade) if you were going with 17" wheels. You should definately upgrade the caster blocks if you are going with the 18's.

The 968 rear caster blocks bolt right in and will reduce deflection, thus keeping your car from bouncing around / darting side to side when you hit a small bump or pot hole.

Would you happen to have a part number for these caster blocks?

18" wheels were never around when the 951 was in production. Neither were Hoosiers, Sparco EVO2's, Tial 38mm wastegates and Vitesse turbo kits. I would bet PCNA would never have approved those either. I bet they would have loved to take a couple of hot laps in our present modded cars regardless.

All true, but Porsche actually wrote a TSB warning against retro-fitting 18 inch wheels. To you point, I suspect they'd reach the same conclusion about a lot of the parts you mention...

TSB 9305: General Information:
Endurance tests have shown that equipping certain Porsche vehicles with 18" wheels in an application not already approved by Porsche Cars, N.A. may result in loosened bolts and/or threaded connections on the front wheel carriers. This, in turn, may cause fractures in these components. Fractures may also occur in the front strut mounts and in the body in the area of the rear suspension as a result of the installation of 18" wheels not already approved for installation for this specific application.

Such damage can occur without warning and the vehicle may become very hard to control or steer as a result of this improper installation.

Porsche dealer personnel coming in contact with a vehicle that has been retrofitted with 18" wheels in an application not approved by Porsche, should inform the owner of the vehicle of the potential for damage to their vehicle and loss of steering control. Porsche Cars, N.A. should also be notified of any vehicles retrofitted with 18" wheels.

I double checked and Porsche continued using the 951 part # through the life of the 968, year 1995.
Luck for us I guess, makes updating that much easier.
Too bad the Turbo RS wasn't such a simple bolt on.

Two things...remember style is in the eye of the beholder...

I think 18 in wheels look great on these cars, if they are the right wheel.... Example

If you like the older Speedline look there are some more modern Gemballas that have the look of the old speedlines here in the classifieds...I think they even come with tires too...

I've seen these Gemballa wheels on a 996 Turbo recently owned by Dr Phil. I knida like em. He had a LOT of Gemballa stuff on his car.

Im not that fond of 18's myself but i just love the speedline wheels on 944's. I probably am gonna look into some 17's so i dont have to worry about rubbing or anything like that. I really like the 993 17's but i cant find any oem ones for sale. Thanks for the input guys
