I’m surprised to see the responses about quick spool on the LR super series.
I have a Super 61/#8 with MAF, 3” exhaust, all of the usual bolt on stuff, a freshly rebuilt engine with an aluminum flywheel and deleted balance shafts. I was disappointed with the low-end torque and spool. It’s decent on some of the bigger tracks, but I liked the k27/6 better overall. Once it gets going it does however keep up with the GT3’s and 996TT’s.

@Wormhole: I'm very glad to read your post in time. I am in the process of deceiding which way to go turbo wise. I was leaning toward the 27/6 in stead of the LR Super 61/#8. You just made me deceide to go for the 27/6. Thanks!

we have a similar setup on our racer (still have the balance shafts, though), and at 16 psi, the GT3's just run away from us; at 18 psi, it gets a little better, but still the more recent GT3's pull away.
After tuning with the mafterburner, we ended up with 350 hp at 15 psi, with a max of 331 torque. We get minimally over 300 torque from 3800 onwards.
Should say we have the T04B variety with #8 - maybe the T04E is better?
Do you have any data for your engine?

Lindsey Super 61 Turbochargers
Hi All,
I can speak with a lot of experience having supplied many of these turbochargers to UK and European customers.
We always supply the LR Super 61# with #8 turbine and water jacketed housing. Why? Becuase it fits under the standard inlet manifold and presents little difficulty to those doing a DIY install.
In terms of performance, the 61 is very quick spooling and makes good power. We regularly run customer cars to 1.3 bar with 340bhp (flywheel) easily achieved using the LR Super 61 and 55# injectors and Dual Port Wastegate.
My previous car (the 2.8 422 [421.9 bhp and 390 rwhp]) used a 61# dry jacketed turbo and has almost zero lag (it runs MAP and 55# injectors). On my new project, I am using a 75# p-trim #10 hotside. My new motor (3.225L) should be able to run up to 2.0 bar boost (needs a big compressor). I'm just hoping it's tame enough to drive!
So, the LR Super 61 is a good replacement for the old K26 series. Easy to fit and minimal lag. I'll get some dyno charts from another customer car tomorrow (also running a LR Super 61) just to substantiate what I'm talking about here.
The MAF kit we do really brings the bigger turbochargers to life too!

Nice to hear but...that means nothing to me. I want to know what these turbos can do for the displacement they were meant to be used for. It doesn't seem to be that they spool up or make that great of power in the low rpms, which is important to me.

Hey Ron, not sure what type of engine data you’re looking for. I haven’t gotten to dyno with the new turbo yet. I do have a ton of datalog files from the mafburner that a lot of assumptions can be made from. If you want I can send them to you, since I don’t have a way to post them. I would be interested in comparing them to any that you may have.

Andrew @ promax - thanks for the hp data - when compared to what they get in the US, ours seemed a little off (350 flywheel hp at 1.1), but it compares ok with yours (we have MAF/3" exhaust/fresh engine) - spoolup is a little less than the k27 it seems. We have not dynoed at 1.3 bar, but ran at Francorchamps with this setting, and the engine felt more powerful.
It will be interesting to see what the 75 does.

Spool up on this car is pretty instant, you will only be caught out if trying to accelrate from a low road speed in a high gear. Anything above 3,000 rpm and the spool is instant and relentless power is unleashed whenver you need it!
Highly recommended.
