My entire SS exhaust spent like 5-6 days at the polisher. Those pics really dont do it justice...it literally looks like jewlery.
goodluck with your project buddy...its going to be a screamer

I'll ask him to chime in about the cleaning process.

Very interesting and inspiring project and nice pictures too; I look forward to the next installment.
On the balancing discussion:
A harmonic balancer/dampener counters the torsional oscillation of the crankshaft as described by Dinan in the referenced article. However its main balancing mechanism is an out of phase oscillation at the same frequency as the crankshaft’s first torsional harmonic (fundamental frequency), beating against the peaks of the crankshaft’s oscillation. As mentioned the rubber mount also has some internal energy absorbing properties, which can make it heat up. This also means that a harmonic balancer is designed to a specific crankshaft and is unlikely to work as intended on a modified (changed moment of inertia and stiffness) or different crankshaft. In the worst case (synchronous oscillation) it might do more harm.
The balance shafts counters (but not fully) the fact that pistons (pairs) pass the TDC faster than the BDC and therefore give an upward jerk to the engine each time a piston pair passes the top. This cannot be balanced out by other means, except by using infinitely long connecting rods.
Has anybody documented the HP gain obtained by deleting the balance shafts?

and i remember a post by john anderson, who dynoed a N/A 944 and gained...........wait for it.........2.5 hp

Laust, are you saying it is ideal to get a correctly matched harmonic balancer to a knife edged crank? Also that if you knife edge the crank it has nothing to do with the balance shafts because the b/s balance out the pistons and not the crank?

Not you average Walmart bolts (or Biltema as we say in Sweden)
Ikea is for the Ladies, Biltema is ours
Somehow your enginestand looks familiar....
Here's mine
Nice job Gustaf, hope i can see all that "stuff" when i come over to Stockholm in January (will send my wife to do some shopping for example at Åhlens )
Let's see what we can do concerning that 968 wing...

Greetings everybody!
The name is Fredrik and I am building "The Green Hunter" together with Duke in the Revline Racing garage. (We also built The black Revline Racing track car last winter) Very excited about the upcoming work and we will for sure post loads of info for you!
I noticed a question about our cleaningprocess and tought i´d post a quickie regarding that.
First we put all loose parts into a bath of pure diesel for atlest 4-7 days
Then we prime with Hot Shot, Bräkleen from CRC or similar (here is also where we started the work on the big parts that dont fit into a bath.)
After this we use compressed air in a blend with pure diesel to spray down the parts, during this we also use a regular brush to by hand scrub the whole thing.
The last two steps contains a degreaser (a kind of soap) with water and after that pure water and a regular cloth to dry everything.
It takes a while but the results are worth it!
Cheers mates!

I know you're quite a boostaholic yourself Laust and I don't think you will be dissapointed
