Time to present the "GO BIG.."-project! With pics

I thought it was about time to present some info about the big projects around my green 951.

The overall goal with the car:
To be able to match, and beat anything new from Porsche. Well I might be satisfied with just the "match" part if a new Carrera GT shows up ;)

The base car, a 1988 Turbo S:
http://www.revline.se/diverse/951Grevgatan.jpg

It has a fresh paint in Porsche Rainforest Green and a flawless black leather interior.

So what will happen to it? Well... it's probably easier talking about the things we're not going to change :)

Suspension:
* Bilstein Escort Turbo Cup coilovers. Club Sport damping settings. Hypercoil springs and Lindsey camber plates
* Welmeister rear bushings
* Powerflex front bushings
* 968 M030 sway bars and new bushings

Brakes:
* 996 GT3/TT front calipers (may switch to 993 TT)
* 993 TT rotors with casted holes and loose hubs, crossdrilled new rotors rear
* Lindsey anodized hubs
* SS brake lines
* Mintex C-tech pads front and rear
* Rebuilt and powder coated rear calipers

Wheels/tires:
* 18", yet to be decided
* Bridgestone RE540S R-compund tires. Grip grip grip grip :)

Engine:
Aha... now the REALLY interesting part starts :)

The engine will be a Revline Racing & Skunk Workz project.
It will be a fully "built" engine with the "system"-approach. Meaning all parts are designed to work together and not just to bolt on some fancy parts..

The base specs are 2.5 liter with 8 valve head.

Some of the goodies:
* Skunk Workz custom, super trick, big valve head
* Skunk Workz custom cam with solid lifters
* Skunk Workz custom reinforced block (wait till you see this neat solution)
* Skunk Workz intercooler
* Most likely a Skunk Workz intake manifold as well...
* Garret GTxxR BB turbo
* Revline Racing turbo fitment
* Revline Racing custom downpipe and exhaust arrangement. 3" exh. and 2" WG piping merging into 4".
* DTA Fast P8Pro engine management with RR custom harness and of course mapped by RR as well.
* Revline Racing oil cooler package (25 row Setrab)
* Revline Racing custom intercooler piping
* Raceware bolts
* Spec alu. flywheel
* Spec Stage 3 lightweight clutch

Related parts:
* All new sensors and such
* All new gaskets and water hoses
* Broadfoot AC delete
* Balance shaft delete
* Ceramic coated headers and downpipe
* All parts polished or powder coated.
* New engine mounts

I probably forgot lots of things but I'll update this list soon with more info and more pics.

So what's the goal of this engine? Simply put lots and lots of HP on pump gas :) :rockon:

Very nice. I love reading about projects like this. Keep the pictures coming and be sure to use the calendar as a backdrop for all future pictures.

hosrom_951 12-22-2005 09:51 AM

Duke,
Congrates, and good luck with the project.

May i ask which motor mounts are you using? they look like aftermarket ones no?

And how are you deleting the balance shafts?

PS: Love the calendar ;)

testarossa_td 12-22-2005 10:15 AM

So you doing some work on your car ;)

You know you maximize your horsepower, you need 968 mirrors.....

Ski 12-22-2005 10:36 AM

and I thought you were going to be busy! Sounds great, keep us updated with pics, gotta have pics. Good luck.

Duke 12-22-2005 11:09 AM

Thanks guys!
It's going to be one hell of a busy winter :)

These are the rubber engine mounts from Lindsey. I hope they will hold up, otherwise I'm going for the Super Mounts.

Have not decided on how to delete the shafts. Either by welding it up or machining a plug for the front. Preferably welding it up.

Yes 968 mirrors would almost be the final touch! A 968 TS adjustable rear wing is higher up on the list though and with a but of luck it might be added to this winters project :)

This project will be extremely well documented with lots of high quality pictures and video clips when the car is running.
We're talking empty airfield with 0-270 km/h sprints all on cam :rockon:

Ps... I'll make sure to snap some more pics of the calendar next visit ;)

Me too... A hint is that we're planning some serious boost for this engine.
And finally a company here in Sweden is getting a widely used dyno, a brand new Dynojet 428.

RolexNJ 12-22-2005 01:07 PM

Wow Duke you are going to be very busy my friend. Good luck with all those new goodies. And I said it before and will say it again, get us some new pics next week! That car of yours is just stunning, dammit!

:thumbup:

Duke 12-22-2005 01:17 PM

Cleaned parts.. All the parts that will be reused are undergoing a comprehensive cleaning process in up to 5 stages. All of those results in beat up knuckles though ;)

Rear tires... we'll see how long they'll last at max boost :burnout:
http://www.revline.se/cars/RRXXX/Rev...XX_2006_24.jpg

Cleaned up block (not finished though!). Some more parts will be removed and then it's ready for the master, Björn @ Skunk Workz, to pick it up and start cooking his magic...

I wouldn't delete the balance shafts...you will only put more stress on your engine and more wear on it also....did you ever take the balance shaft belt off and drive the car? After spending all that money on making everything top notch, you will end up with an engine that shakes the whole car and a car that is annoying to drive.

Dinan's cars come with factory warranties and are sold through BMW dealerships.

Dave E 12-22-2005 01:40 PM

I have no balance shafts with an engine built by Scott Gomes. Lightened and balanced crank and flywheel. I was expecting vibration but had only a barely perceptable amount. Seems good balancing can go a long way...
