Take your wastegate off and have a look at it. This will narrow down your problems real quick. I would still have my money on the valve having come unscrewed. Get some high temp locktite and screw it back together and you'll be good to go.

Now we are getting somewhere! So do you get intake backfire (pops from intake)?
What happens that you cannot go over 4000rpm? Does the car drives fine then shuts down at 4000rpm? Is it always 4000rpm? [Details help!!!] Can you go over 4000rpm at Part Throttle, WOT?

So, not getting boost is a problem, but also not being able to go over 4000rpm is a problem as well?

I am getting intake backfire!!!! and exhaust backfire.....why am I getting intake fire?
sorry to hijack but I have the same problem......in neutral it revvs fine but when in boost it cuts out at 3400 or so....if I don't boost it it may get past 4K but now that it's gotten worse I am afraid to push it......it seems to have problem geting going...when I put it in 1st and accelerate it to engage the clutch and get moving it misfires stumbles and finnally gets going.....seems to misfire or stumble most
at lower rpm......

Ok, at part or WOT doesn't seem to make a difference.

It will rev past 4K, just real hard to get it up there especially in higher gears. 1st and 2nd was easier to get into higher revs.

No pops or backfires.

I also noticed that in the higher gears at higher revs, the stock guage measure boost at the first small line. But the autometer didn't seem to gestier, maybe 1-2 psi if any.

During idle, wg dump pipe was warm, but not as hot as exhaust and after test drive, wg pipe felt warmer.

Not sure, but turbo sems to be louder and making more noise at lower revs then last night, but can't really be sure.

If it is the turbo, I am gonna come unglued after the money and time put into rebuild and changeing it out.

Take it to a mechanic who really knows these cars. Works every time, and will save you a lot of grief. Some things can be done by amateurs, others are not so easy.

There is nothing special about the 4000rpm. You get intake backfire with LEAN mixture.. (Darius, I think the problems you are having are mixture related).

In ToddK911 case, I'm trying to figure out if the problem is related to PT or WOT.. This helps in figuring out the cause of the problem..

I think the boost problem is caused by something else.. but more investigation is needed.

Todd: You mentioned that you could HEAR the turbo spooling but yet you find it difficult to get 4K+ rpm?

There is a difference between hearing the turbocharger spool and the wastegate opening, the turbocharger would sound like wheel spinning (from a low speed to a higher speed, like a wizzing sound) while the wastegate would make a continuous "hisssing" noise.

Now this if off of my head, but you may have a slighlty collapsed downpipe. There was a rennlister here who had a similar situation as yours and he showed what the collapsed testpipe looked like......

Which noise do you hear (regarding turbo spooling)?

Hos, it is definately the turbo spooling. Like a hairdryer on full blast.

Although, with my WG dump straight to atm, mine would sound really loud if it was the WG stuck wide open.

Peckster, I agree. I will go by my shop on Monday. Was just hoping it was something stupid that could be fixed easy.

Toddk911, check the TPS. Make sure it's sending a WOT signal when TB is fully open.
