Default 2.5 -> 2.8 conversion

I know this subject has probably been beaten to death but I'm interested in getting this setup in the 951. I just need some more information before I get to part shopping.

So I was thinking of doing the following:

-Buying the pistons, and rods off lindsey racing (unless I can find another supplier), and finding a used 3l crankshaft off either a 968, or S2.

http://www.lindseyracing.com/Merchan...=944CONNRODCAR

http://www.lindseyracing.com/Merchan...4PISTONPISTONS

-Than having a local porsche performance shop do the work.

How is that? Also, does it require to have the engine bored? Or thats optional?

So after this is all said and done I will gain a big gain in low end, and little top end, but I'll have big numbers of power to the wheels.

Does anyone have any sources, or leads to find the crankshaft? Or another source for pistons, and rods?

andial's kit is wayyy too expensive, looking for another place to find a crank, and some of the other items if they are cheaper.

Cheap and 2.8 do not go together...well, unless opposites attract.

While considering a larger displacement, think about the 2.8l big bore...

Ya, but I'm not looking to spend a crazy amount of money. If I can pull this project off between the 3-4k range I'll be happy. But you never know, opposites do attract in some situations.

John, are there any advantages by going big bore on the engine? Or is it a safety (just in-case) type of issue?

I personally like the big-bore approach better. Based on David Floyd's car (once he assembled it himself) there is lots of potential. I was impressed with what the car made on the dyno, even with a slipping clutch.

The stroker setup is not timing friendly. I have seen way too many 2.8L strokers spin the rod bearings..

Both approaches require some mods to the block to handle windage problems...

I was shooting for the 4-5k range on my build, well....... once you do all the while I'm in there stuff, trying to stay on some what of a budget and at the same time not cutting corners, then the rework I went thru, I have spent 15k !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stuff adds up quick and once you are in so far, there is no turning back.

If you don't want to spend alot of money, stay 2.5, get it in tip top shape, match a good turbo/ MAF kit( Vitesse ) not near as much hassle and that will be sort of in your price range.

IMHO

I wish you luck,

Ya I already have a good turbo, maf kit, and mods, but the power just isnt there anymore. How did you get off the budget?

John: Are you talking about sleeving the block to 106mm? why don't you just over-bore the standard block to 104.00mm, have a 3.0L crank installed? At least that way you'd be keeping the original block, and it would be 'easier' compared to sleeving right?

I had a good turbo and MAF on my 2.5 also, it was a match for the 2.5, now you have a 2.8 and the stuff is not optimum anymore, you sell the old stuff and buy new and on and on and on.

Well at the moment I have a Vitesse Stage II kit sitting around, but I have a to4b in my car.

The main reason I want to do the 2.8 is to break the 400hp mark.
