V944god,
If you upgrade to a TO4E either from Vitesse or other
vendors, you should be able to see 350-360 rwhp
running at 18 psi with 98 ron gas. I think the key here
is not to break the 400 rwhp mark but rather where
you can generate the power in the rpm range.
Of course to many power is addictive & never enough.
Then again if you're on a budget, you can still attain
a good compromise running with 2.5L engine.

Not nearly enough turbo, IMHO

400 whp at reasonable boost is also my goal.

Fast951,
Since we're talking about big bore with custom
pistons, the timing issue & assuming that all
else remains the same can be improved upon
by running longer rods. Of course the ultimate
would be longer rods with ported heads &
modified combustion chambers with custom
cam. Oooch, that would bring us into Big Dollars
catergory.

There is a saying: Torque wins races, Horsepower sells cars...
The 951 is not a high revver, so we should concentrate on the torque and the area under the curve. The sooner you make HP/TQ the better...
Years ago I had a 3.0L turbo.. The turbo was a K27/8, a good 2.5l with a nice turbo will give it a run for the money. Now put a nice turbo on a 3.0l and you have a heck of a ride..
On street tires, traction is your limiting factor!!! Once you get to the 350rwhp/tq traction is a huge factor.. Can we say wheel spin in 3rd gear? Yes it's fun, but it's not fast!
Once we are done dynoing David's 2.8l we should have a clear idea on what a 2.8l big bore is capable of...

awh, i thought i read somewhere that the 968 turbo s was a one off car, like it never went into production, or any of them for that matter. i guess i am wrong or, did you build your own?

with bigger tires with of course, wider flares to cover them, do you think you could get better traction and be able to hold that kinda power?

They built 16 cars for the street to homologate and 4 race cars. They artificially slowed them down as well. Mine is an exact replica using 80% of driveline parts from the orginal cars and 100% visual body mods. Only upgrades were done where there are better solutions than the factory.

If 3-4k is your budget, I'd advise you to save up your money. If you do plan to proceed with the conversion with 3-4k in hand, make sure you check back on our posts here warning you about it when your car's sitting on jackstands for a year or 2 .

Like David said, these 2.8L's aren't cheap. I've put in the close to the amount of $ as David. If you read back on my posts, I was talking about 2.8L for a LONG time. It took 2 years to finance the project and it went really really slow.

I'd put my money on 400whp on pump gas. After a bit of tweaking on my car, I'm up in the 400whp at pump gas knock threshold on a hot day at 15psi, but need to hit the dynos to confirm the number. I'm just using a GPS calibrated Blitz power meter to measure approx. power and changes on the road. On cold days, I can run 18psi with no knock putting down 430whp, but that's cheating .

David, good to see your car in good hands now... hope to see those dyno charts soon so we can compare notes! .

Ya you might be right, I might just sell the car in a few months and find something else like a Z06. Love these cars, but I'm tired of it now.

I wrote about a theory of the bordem, basically you need to spend more money on it and make it faster.

v944god-
I would stick with the big bore idea. You can rev it high without worrying as much about rpm. It would be much safer.

Well here's the situation I really don't like spending much money on cars because they aren't the best of investments especially when you drop all that money into them and barely get the money that you've spent on it. If I was able to get the parts between 3-4k than I would have had the project on way this winter.

Honestly what can make it cost so much? Human error?

The reason it cost so much is because it
starts with the letters Por. Joke aside I think
it's because of the very small market when
compared to cars like Honda, Toyota etc.
To be honest, I personally think that some
vendors are also hiking prices just because
it's a Porsche.
