Seems to be a lot of 928 long-time fans selling up at the moment. Is the market depressed versus last year? Are people who want them ageing out? Lack of confidence on future value versus maintenance costs?
Or is it just coincidence?

Hi All - I have decided its time to sell the 928 I thought I would keep forever. Its the nicest one Ive owned and the nicest completely original (and fully complete) 928 I've seen. It took a podium finish at Werks Monterey Concours two years ago. The details are in Rennlist and I would love to see it go to someone in the RL family. The details are in the RL Marketplace.
Actually for me I think the opposite is true. I had sold 4 928s in the past 4 months, because I needed the money to restore more desirable editions of 928 in my current ownership. Getting tired of shuffling 928s around my storage and detailers. All 4 928s I had sold rewarded me with fond driving memories, and also netted me a handsome return that's better than the Trump-stock market. My "leftovers" are worth even more money down the road and will never depreciate less than what I paid or will put into them.
There are alot of available 928s now from owners that have multiple 928s and need to concentrate time and money to those that are even better.
You should've kept your low mileage red OB auto is still my opinion! :-)

Just wanted to start a fair dialogue about it Hoi. Thanks for the input. I am keen to eventually buy another to go alongside my '82 Weinrot (86.5 or GT this time).
I do miss the '79 I had. More from an aesthetic than a driving perspective... That sale enabled me to buy a Lancia Integrale Evo that i've since sold at a great profit (I also have a few other Lancia integrales and zagatos that i'll be keeping for the long term).
Interested to see what the RL 928 Cartel is thinking about values, the 928 'right horse' to have and back, etc.

I think the 928 is a solid "buy" for those that do not have one, or a "hold" for those that have a decent one. Values plateaued recently, but they haven't dropped back, and I think they will continue to appreciate. I do think the market is sorting the wheat from the chaff though. Good ones are worth looking for and holding onto. On the bubble cars are still worth grabbing for DIY refresh/resto, but be careful about how much you put into it, unless you just want a good shark and want to drive the snot out of it, which is what most of the folks on this forum do.

Hi Stan - thanks. You are most likely right and this could be the one I truly regret selling one day, but It’s not really about the money. I really enjoy driving and working on these and sadly I don’t drive it much and it needs no work. I have an 85 Euro much like the one you sold a couple years ago and that’s the one I drive the most. It’s not as nice as the platinum car but I drive it with abandon and it’s very enjoyable. So the platinum car mostly sits under a cover. I agree it’s a pretty rare find these days and I’m willing to sell it to someone who knows and appreciates it.

Very Interesting questions....4-5 years ago when I started looking at 928s there were not a lot of quality offerings. After I bought my first one, I loved the car and thought they had upside potential. That is not so important unless you are investing in multiple cars and telling your wife (and yourself ) " I'm not spending I'm investing". Having been collecting cars for many years I've always tried to project what cars were under valued. Then one needs to ask; is the car market over or under valued ? The car market is definitely adjusting today, so those of us who have collected too many cars or those who are just speculators, are all thinking about selling some or all of their inventory. That's why we have seen some beautiful examples of 928s and other models (like my red M6 now on Bat) for sale. Seems like many car events are now predominately older folks. The young folds think differently. They don't want mega mansions, antique furniture and prewar cars or even a DD car. They use Uber or rent a car when necessary. Maintenance costs and dependability are other considerations for them. It will be interesting to see what the auction results from Monterrey indicate. There are some very impressive cars being sold there in a few weeks.

It is in outstanding condition and has had a TON of work done to it including having the motor resealed and gone through (rebuilt heads, rings and bearings) by 928 Master Mechanic Sean Ratts. It will need nothing but to be enjoyed. I'm putting together a long list of things done and detailed history so please reach out to me if interested. I have owned it 9 years and I'm the fourth owner. It has 77K miles and my starting price is $55K. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Wow guys, that's lot's of good offerings. IMO I think if you have a premium 928 or any collector car for that matter, now is not a bad time to sell. The economy has been booming for near a decade now and a down turn is inevitable. Maybe next year or three, who knows, but it's coming and when it does the smart money isn't going to be investing in cars.

Wow, I love that GT. What is the intake's color? Looks like the original correct.
Photos are great, btw..with the exception of the date stamp. Nothing a little honest Photoshopping couldn't remove in a matter of a few minutes.
I can't imagine the finish on the intake is original. If it is, that should be highlighted in the description. If it isn't, it's an excellent match to original, i.e. uncompromising attention to originality - which should also be highlighted in the description.
Black on black may not be unique, but it will never be dated.
That looks like a $55k car all day long.
