Default Engine test stand

Just finished up this test stand, so that we can run engines before they get shipped or even run them before they go into the vehicle. (For the engines that don't go on the dyno.) Self contained unit.....takes about an hour to bolt one on and have it running.

This happens to be a 5.0 Euro engine, heading to Mexico.

Whoever can identify what model and year that "rat rod" fuel tank fits wins a tee shirt! (People that have been here and were told can not participate.)

Cool, it's finished!

How does Joe Cocker like the open exhaust when it lights off? Built an adapter for your dyno dump mufflers yet?

is this the first euro 85ish motor with a 5 liter? what kind of power do you expect from it? we might never know if its getting shipped to mexico!

it looks nice... brand new!

any secrets in the build ? just notch the pistons and put it back together with a used 5 liter S3 block?

I'm thinking it needs a pair of big long exhaust megaphones, not some wussy muffler.

Very cool, Greg! Now you need to build another, can't have a race with only one.

I think Joe hates it. He has his tail down...but he insists on standing right by it, when it is running. I think there's a lesson there:

Keep the things that scare you very close....to keep your imagination under control. If your imagination were to kick in, it probably would be more frightening than reality.

Nice job. That tank looks a lot like an early Harley XL or XLS

Nice fabrication details. I'm fascinated that it takes even you an hour to hook it all up, out in the open. Remind me never to take my engine out. Shouldn't there be a big red emergency stop button?

Any provision, or plans, for running under load? What's the most expedient device, a water brake? I was curious, so found this: http://www.dynomitedynamometer.com/a...e_absorber.htm

Damn, I want a GB T-shirt - that tank is off a Harley, 1200 cc variant.

I really like it Greg, great work!
Would have thought the base would have been a wider stance.

So did you use Liquid MM or Solid Rubber

Dave

Edit: early BSA

Very cool. I can't imagine the hours that went into that stand. But if it "saves" one quirky engine from being installed, it pays for itself.
