928 Garage Porn

Former Vendor
Since I've been off the forum for a while, I didn't realize this thread existed for posting 928 Garage pics and stories. As mentioned in the "Dwaynesgarage.com is down?" thread, I've been busy with a couple of construction jobs - one of which is the new Dwayne's Garage (actually, I just call it a shop but it's the future location where I'll be doing all my 928 work).

Hi Dwayne--
I guess your extended self-build schedule is sufficient explanation for your (relative) scarcity heer on RL. Very understandable considering the scope of the project and all. Looking forward to the finished product, if that ever happens. I know you'll get it done, but mot projects like this are never truly 'finished'.
-----
We looked at a home here in Bend prior to purchasing the one we have now. It suffered from a one-piece 2700sft finished basement/garage underneath, plus a store/utility room holding the dedicated garage/shop HVAC, hot water and a 5hp screw compressor plumbed into the workspace. K had already picked out this house so the other house was probably something I should never have looked at. The first thing that came to mind when I saw the space was spray booth! Probably a good thing we didn't get that place come to think of it, except for the part where it's doubled in value in the past few years.
Things I've learned over the years, particularly when I had some rented commercial workspace to hold my toys: Bigger spaces lure more and bigger projects, and very early in that process they can be overwhelming. Sort of like the lesson on sheathing your roof, the guys who do it all the time are much faster and better at their particular skills. Having lots of projects will take over your life if you aren't careful. Time is precious, and one the truly non-renewable resources. Make sure you are having fun through all of this.

Seeing as how D's garage takes up the space that San Diego would put approx 10 houses, I will have to be realistic, at least if I want to stay here, and near the ocean. Love the designs.

THANKS All for the feedback and for the wise advice.
Dr bob, you are right; I do have a lot of projects and they can take over my life if I'm not careful. So far, I'm having a blast with the construction project and enjoying the sense of accomplishment. Thanks for the wise advice.
BTW, looks like I'm only a couple of hours away from your location in Bend!

We've been in Bend for a little over a year now, bought the hous three years ago but had to do a little bit of updating. We modified or improved on everything except some exterior paint, then ended up repainting. My workbay is still a Work In Progress, thanks to spending too much time traveling on projects and not enough time at home. Each year I sign on to fewer and fewer projects, at some point will just start saying no to all of them.

So where did you end up? I was headscratching when I saw your pics and the sig line that still says Ridgecrest. Trying to figure out what part of Ridgecrest has trees. (???)

...I bet you have some stories to tell about your improvement work on the house.

So new Baldhead shop cabs are in, and they are way sweet. by the time they were installed, I had a 'map' of where everything goes. Nice! Meanwhile... the local shop that was working on K's garage cabs had a problem that caused a couple month delay, so her cabs were installed after mine, while I was away on a project. Lacking a 'map', all the stuff intended to go in her cabs is sitting in my workbay and on my benchtops. IMHO, no map is going to get all that "stuff" into the spaces she's created. She's already eyeing the unfilled spaces in the workbay cabs; even though my map shows them occupied, I haven't loaded them yet.
Serviced the car and rolled it to its storage/hibernation spot for a while. Needed to get something there so the space it wasn't infringed upon.

Burning Brakes
Have been working on my garage the past month. The garage 40 by 30 two story with a skating rink on the floor underneath. Had some issues with wet cars dripping and water making it's way down to the rink. So sealed the floor with vulkem 2 part sealant to waterproof, which later I found out doesn't take torsional loads such as tires and casters from the Go-jacks without lifting. (was "sold" on this product instead of flexible epoxy which would have been the right solution). So now I'm going to racedeck the surface to take torsional loads and maintain the vulkem
rubber waterproofing. Just competed spray foaming yesterday (and has in floor slab hydronic heating system) so should be cozy for winter. Had to move all my crap from one side to the other three times...now finally can get 928's back in and hopefully a lift (if the budget allows).
Doing a garage floor and spray foam 1/2 at a time is a miserable job...
