Default '93 GTS 5 speed

Ouch, this is expensive. I can't see it selling at anything like that. What's it really worth?

The interior is somewhat funky ..

Lots of special history to this GTS. Not that I think the Magenta color carpeting does anything but ruin the overall look of the car. The Zermatt Silver paint is stunning!

From the Ebay ad:

"Due to the special color combination, the order was delayed over a month. Then, the dealer installed the executive package, which included a mobile phone, Lojack, and K40 integrated radar detector. Nothing has been removed and the car remains as delivered new.

These owners truly pampered this 928. No service was ever missed and it was always garaged. All of their services were performed by their local Porsche dealership. 10-years later, they retired to Arizona and brought the car with them. Shortly thereafter, they sold it to the current owner. He is a Southern California vintage car enthusiast who had been searching for a unique and pristine GTS for years. He bought this one in December of 2003 with almost 33,000 original miles. For the next decade and 20k+ miles, this owner did everything to make this one of the best 928 GTS examples in North America. Describing him as fanatical is putting it lightly. If anything made a strange sound or he didn’t think it was right, he would spend countless dollars correcting it. Some highlights of significant repairs/enhancements include:

Top-end engine rebuild including heads and valves (over $8,000)

Replaced synchros in gearbox (over $6,000)

Custom header and complete exhaust system (over $10,000)

Rebuilt torque tube

Shark tuned chip (original chips included)

New clutch, pressure plate, and resurfaced flywheel

New H4 headlights

Rebuilt original steering rack

Repair A/C

Timing belt and water pump (at 34k miles)

New Michelin tires

All in all, the current owner invested over $33,000 maintaining and improving this rare GTS. Greg Brown of Precision Motorwerks in Anaheim, CA (one of the top Porsche 928 specialists in the country) performed all of the work for the current owner. He used this car to develop a custom exhaust system that produced an additional 23hp and 12lb ft torque. See pictures for dyno results as well as this video of the run:
Dyno Run

Recently, this GTS was selected by Porsche to be included in their Panamera launch commercial/media called “Family Tree.” We have countless pictures from the event. The car is even included in the promotional poster produced by Porsche (included/see pics). Here is the TV commercial and behind the scenes:

Family Tree Commercial

The Making Of Family Tree

Also, Porsche used this GTS as part of his interactive Family-Tree website experience as the representative for the 928 (see pics)."

Nice car, although I'm not enthusiastic about the carpet colour ... at all! That's one thing I'd have to change.

What's it worth ... what someones prepared to pay for it, and it'll be interesting to see what that is. I hope it sells for a good price ... which is good for everyone who owns a 928, especially us GTS owners.

The engine bay looks like it did at the factory.

It's a rare and interesting color combination, with the grey interior and the almost magenta carpeting. That ADDS VALUE. This is an EXCELLENT example. Don't dis' the car because it's not a color you would have chosen had you bought it new. Obviously someone was looking for something a little above the "common" color schemes, and was willing to step up to get it.

This car is worth whatever ONE person will pay for it. If there are no bids, it stays with the seller.

This is William A's car. There are no superlatives that capture its condition, you really just have to see it in person to believe it. The deviating carpet is a factory option, it deserves to stay in/with the car.

I can't see it selling at anything like that. What's it really worth?
It's really worth what a Porsche collector will pay for it. Plenty of precedent for low miles 5-speed GTSs to break 80, 90, $100K. William's '93 may have more miles than the mothballed garage queens, but its condition could easily pass for a 10K mile car, and it has the benefit of actually having been driven and maintained properly by the best in the business. Best of both possible worlds.

Yeah I hope it sells for $5k over list. But.............. if I had that kind of money to buy that car, the 1st thing I'd do is change the carpet color to something that goes better with the rest of the car. I wouldn't care how the original owner ordered it from the factory. You could keep the carpet for the next buyer should you decide to resell later. No matter how unique or rare, someone spending $105k on a GTS can be picky. So if a buyer didn't care for the carpet color, they'd just factor that in to the equation. Changing carpet is much cheaper than changing a paint or leather color. The Zermatt silver paint & grey leather would be desireable enough of a combo for me to overlook the Magenta carpet, until I could switch it out.

Being in the Porsche commercials is certainly special and could not be duplicated. So that adds to the marketability. However, you could hire GB to do all of the mods to the engine this car has had. For $105k, I think there have been multiple other GTSs come for sale in recent years with much less mileage than almost 60k. Several Willhoit cars with less than 20k, which is a third of the mileage this car has.

But again, if I had a spare $105k, I'd love to have it as much as anyone, it is an awesome GTS, no doubt!

Surely high prices are good for sellers, but inflate prices of parts and mechanics for owners. I'm not a quitter
