Comments about color, equipment and price are but, as Tom said: only determined when someone pays XX for it. When someone asks "what is my car worth?: Our little grist mill offers numbers, but those are just opinions based on usually less than all the information and not backed up with cash.

I offer another subjective question then, compare this car with Jim Mayzurk's car, PLEASE. I would not pay 104 for this car (although I do think I like the carpet), when I could have Jim's at less than half the price. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...s-5-speed.html

Different car, different experience. . . and one I'd very much like to have. I believe it is still available and for IMHO it is faaaaaar better value, etc. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Those numbers are what the factory claimed for flywheel horsepower, I believe.

Interior is classic grey with magenta carpet. Classic grey has a slight red-ish touch, so the carpet does complement it somewhat. I have to admit, though, that I'm not fond of it.

I wonder what required the top end rebuild... some form or timing belt failure sounds the most likely.

Objection, your Honor, speculation.

William's car suffered a freak intake valve lip fracture, about a 2 mm sliver maybe 1 cm long cracked off one edge of one intake valve. If it ingested something it was very hard and very small. No valve seat or cylinder damage, and William did the whole top end refresh while it was apart, since the head was off anyway. WYAIT, and all.

The car made the weirdest little whistling noise at idle, as you might imagine. William thought it was an exhaust leak, or vacuum leak, or ??? but no one expected a chipped valve. IIRC Greg had never seen such a failure.

I'm annoyed, I have picture of it somewhere but can't find it. As a place holder, here's proof of the top end refresh, April 2013. William's car is a little cleaner than mine....

Surpising he didn't elect to replace the coolant expansion tank at the time - the old yellow look detracts from the overall freshness of the engine bay.

By all accounts this is probably the cleanest GTS out there, especially with non-trivial (but low) miles. It also has some interesting history, which I don't place a value on, but others will. It'll be interesting to see if it sells quickly.

Since every tank I've used in the past 5 years has had seepage around where the metal insert for the cap goes into the tank....and I'm tired of making excuses for this....I'm now only suggesting to my customers that they replace their overflow tank when they actually have a crack and actively leak.

I had a couple of customers that were irritated when they traded "dingy" for seepage.....which I can understand....but have very little control over.

Regardless of the make, model, or year, "high end" examples require finding the correct buyer.

While we could have certainly removed only one head, the head gaskets in all of these vehicles are very deteriorated, after sitting around in coolant for over 20 years. I convinced William that the best thing to do, while we were 90% there, would be to take the other head off, have the head "freshened" and replace the head gasket. The people that "address" this problem only once it becomes a water leaking into the cylinder problem always have to deal with welding the head to repair corrosion damage...at a minimum. Sometimes they have to deal with a bent connecting rod....especially in the GTS models.

An ounce of prevention.....you know the rest.

No surprise here but I LIKE the carpet. Sets it apart from the ordinary.

According to the period documents, code 55 zermatt silver metallic was a special metallic paint offering in 1992. For the 968 it was a $1500 paint option but not a color to sample. For 1992, 3 North American 968 cabs were produced in Zermatt and 2 coupes.

Dont want to hijack, but is there a pre-emptive fix to the seep? Getting ready to replace a cracked one.

I'd sure like to know, if there is.

It's pretty irritating to have to explain to customers that their new tank is going to "seep" and there is nothing I can do.

Of course, most customers think that I'm making this crap at home, in my garage, and I'm directly responsible for everything that is made.

It's an interesting business.
