Thanks guys. I too, I guess obviously, also think the magenta adds to the cars appeal. Funky is fun.

I'm in Simsbury CT.

Hi William. Very true. Paul was great to work with. First round is on me! I sent you a PM just to introduce myself today. I have a ton of respect for you and the car. Hopefully we can meet up someday for a pint.

Cheers!

Chris

The car made the weirdest little whistling noise at idle, as you might imagine. William thought it was an exhaust leak, or vacuum leak, or ??? but no one expected a chipped valve. IIRC Greg had never seen such a failure.

I'm annoyed, I have picture of it somewhere but can't find it. As a place holder, here's proof of the top end refresh, April 2013. William's car is a little cleaner than mine....

I hate to derail, but what did that whistle sound like? mine has a whistle at idle too, I mean its LOUD. no vacuum lieaks that I can detect. but it looks like its coming directly through the MAF, and if there was a leak you would think the idle could go up a little and it doesn't compared to when there was no noise. power is still the same, and im puzzeled.. its been doing this for a couple years now.

any ideas of why? as soon as you add throttle, it goes away. idle it just howels.

Thanks! I did buy it to enjoy on the road, not just store it, and I do plan on bringing it to various events. My problem lies more with the amount of free time I have. With 3 kids under 5 I'm usually a prisoner at home on the weekends. Although I currently stuff them in the back of the Carrera and bring them to local shows/cruises.

Once the weather warms up I hope to run into some fellow 928 owners out there!

Mark,
It was more like a whistle with an intermittent "tick". The tick, which sounded like an exhaust leak, must have been the weak combustion that was leaking out the unsealed valve. Whistling was the air moving past the small opening during the 4 stroke cycle.

If you have compression, I don't think you have the same problem I did.

As Rob mentioned, Greg had never seen such a weird valve failure, and the rest of the valves looked great. Which also made the correctly recommended full top end rebuild that much more bitter, lol!

At least with those heads out of the way I could do some cleaning in hard to reach areas (that no one can see, lol!)

I love this colour combo so much I am getting a set of Magenta carpets made up for my new Zermatt Silver GTS.

Apart from carpets is it just the door bins that need recovered?

The rear cover may be a bit harder to get hold of in Magenta.

Currently it is double black interior which is a safe option but does not do the car justice.

This might help, from the Concours on the Avenue in Carmel last August. The lower door panels are carpet also, and all of the carpet bits were magenta. Everything else was (I believe) classic gray. Rear luggage covers are hard to get ahold of in any color. Absolutely gorgeous car. (That's our black '93 GTS in the background).

Nice car, although I'm not enthusiastic about the carpet colour ... at all! That's one thing I'd have to change.
