Hmm... 3k is about the same as my GI Bill. I have to pass though as I'm at least a year away from even giving this a serious thought. I'm sure it will find a good home ;-)

Hi again, guys,
I am getting a Y-pipe from a friend. I will add that to my growing list of WYAT's, along with porting the cast iron exhaust manifold to it, per Porken's description. I am going to redo the 2" fuel lines at each injector, and have the injectors cleaned as well. I think I will have the car in my wife's spot in the garage for about a month doing the whole job. Time will tell.
Anyway, still getting stuff in line for the SC install.

Be careful with those injectors, Dave. They are getting very hard to find. O-ringed on the bottom and barbed on top.

I can send them in and have them cleaned for you - but if the car is running well now, I'd just replace the hoses from the top of the injector to the fuel rail and leave them alone. They are not only old, but they were never intended for use with ethanol.

Don't let any debris fall into them once you have the hose removed.

That sounds like good advice, Carl. I have been worried about breaking an injector, when they seem OK right now. Half the short hoses were replaced by PO in 2002, the other half look original. That's why I thought I'd replace them. All other hoses less than one year old.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Guys,
I could not stand the waiting any more, so I pulled my car into the garage, put it up on stands and started tearing it down. I made a check list of things to do so I don't forget stuff. HopefullyI'll have it torn down today or tomorrow.

Hi again. I spent a few hours and got the basic SC prep/tear down done. I have the air pump, air box, crank pulleys off. Radiator out. I took a couple of pictures, but there is nothing constructive yet. Tomorrow, I will try to pull the fuel rails and send the injectors of for cleaning.
Thanks for reading,
Dave

Your kit is just about ready - I am waiting on your crank pulley to come back from hard-coating. Expect it here maybe late this week, certainly no later then next week. (depends how backed-up the hard-coater is).

Then we ship.

Thanks, Carl.
I spent the worst part of the day today removing my cat, in anticipation of my y-pipe. Ihave to say that there are 10 fasteners, and all but two were real bastards. I was going to pull my plenum and clean up some more, but now I just want to relax and let my knuckles heal up a little. I found out that one arm of my cat was broken off, and that cat is heavy!.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for the update Dave, I am about to buy a y from Carl and was wondering how difficult it is going to be to install in particular with the hack job that was done on my exhaust by the po. This is gonna be fun!

I purchased and installed Carl's kit a few years ago on my 1984 5spd; you will be blown away by the difference in performance. Carl was very attentive with some issues I had with the supercharger belts; also, I had a lot of oil blow-by issues. My car was shown at Sharktoberfest a few times and I tracked the car at various race tracks in So Cal, including Willow Springs, Buttonwillow, California Speedway (now called Autoclub Speedway) as well as up north at Laguna Seca and in the track outside of Las Vegas. Carl is very supportive with information (Hi Carl...) - only change I would make would be to use a gear driven s/c to avoid the belt issues - but, you will love it.

Thanks

Hi Guys,
I am still waiting on my SC kit. It should be here soon. The time since ordering has given me time to take care of a couple of prep items. I have torn down the engine, replaced my injector fuel lines, I got my flywheel locked and my pulleys off, ready for the big pulley. I had a chance to get a Y-pipe so I did so and got it installed this weekend. When I pulled my cat, one of the arms fell off, and I think that was an exhaust leak noise I was hearing. When I looked closely at my pumpkin muffler, I saw a break in one of the welds and another leak. I decided to put in a fast order for the Borla Cat-back system. I installed that today. I do hate jack-stand work and in the Midwest the underside fasteners are very rusty. Getting the old exhaust off and getting the new one in was quite a wrestling match. I think I won, but I can't start the car to hear the exhaust yet.
I hope to get a shipment this week and start the constructive phase of my install by the weekend.
Have a good week, and thanks for reading,
Dave
