Default LAGUNA SECA -SCCA ITE / American V8 supercar race this saturday 6.8.13 - VIDEO UP

If anyone is going to be around, Im running the old 928S4 in this weekend's Race with SCCA at Laguna Seca
probably be running in two classes and getting it all done in two days!
ITE and AV8SS.

The car is running well. I got some new Hoosier front tires, so it will be interesting how brand new tires help out. this will be my first set of new tires in over 10 years. (Ive always used throwaway scrubs!)

New fronts with old rears will be "interesting".........

Since I run "square" setup when I rotate in two "fresh-er" tires I always put them on the back....since the goal is the most traction getting off the corners....casper doesn't understeer at all....

Mark: Do you have the schedule? I'll try to make it down. We can talk about your AFR anomalies too.

the goal for me is much better braking control and turn in, with faster cornering speed. loose is much faster my friend! (but a little scary with used stuff on the rear. )

the 928 is naturally pushy, so im not too worried about it and the rears arent more than 6 heat cycles old, so we will see wont we!

off to the races. can only do one day, so its just Saturday, but two classes. ITE and AV8SS.

Just finished doing the most work on the car since Bill and I changed out the trannie.

finally after 4 years , a tune up. new cap, rotor and plugs! by the way, the old plugs actually looked good, but the gap was pretty large after not being touched in so long.

also put on the first change to the car in quite some time. new brake pads, but PFC--01. I heard they are the Shixx! pagids were still only a couple of weekends old, but didn't like the feel on the end of a 130mph straight to a hard braking zone. lets see if they are as good as everyone says.
as a NOTE> big rip off. the pads are only 15mm thick, vs the new pagids at 17mm. wonder what the deal there was???

Not bad for 20yr old technology..there is better.

You got thinner pads, because you may not have been clear on your order, or didnt know you could have thicker pads in your setup than the default shape that those come in.

Be sure to specify it when you order.

However, this gives you the change to use old backing plates as shims for additional heat insulation to the pistons, as well.

Ok, do tell...............whats better. they were much better than the Pagid blacks, but I did boill the brake fluid in the race with them. more pressure for near the same stopping? more heat to the calipers? don't know.

So, Ill make them work, and put some higher temp fluid in there. maybe stoptech 600 .

so, whats the better pad????? I really wanted to do the DTC70s from Hawk.

You guys must be getting bored of a 928, with no engine oiling mods, having another great weekend of racing.

wrung the heck out of it again. 2 races, one day, 3 race weekend on the amzoil.

2nd in ITE, 2nd in AV8SS. But there was some attrition this weekend.
the NSX turbo that I was in a pack of 3 cars with, spun in turn 2 wth 5 laps to go. in AV8SS, both Anderson and Jeff K in their monster mustangs broke transmission and got popped for sound.

Good time. Drove to and from the track too! And , was up close and personal with a rare racer, an Aston Martin T1. pretty cool.

oh Brian, you were right, it was a loosy goosey car with the new hoosiers in front and the used ones on the back. But, I heard I had too much pressure, so ill give them one more chance at Sears next month. even the corner workers said It was obvious that I was fighting the car pretty bad. lots of drifting!

Mark:

Good going! The durability of this motor and the car in general continues to be rather amazing, especially in contrast to your competition, many of whom aren't able to finish one race let alone a whole series. Keep it simple has worked very well.

Sorry I couldn't make it down Saturday. Try to make it to Jeff's BBQ on the 22nd.

Oh, while I was there, I was feeling that the engine wasn't reving up as quick from 5k to 6k. times were pretty good considering I wasn't hitting my acceleration marks on the track. (turn 11 to start finish just before redline). so I went to the dyno at the track...... the same Dyno that Brian uses, as its portable. So..................drum roll please.........................

372 rwhp. almost exactly the same as the week we put the motor in! with in 1hp! and within 1ftlb of torque 401rwt. not bad for a motor with 5 years of racing on it. (55 race days to be exact)
fuel and air were still on the real fat side. but same as day one. 12:1 and then down under 11 and near 10.5:1 from 5500 to 6400rpm. I still think the quick answer would be to get the 24lb injectors and bump the fuel pressure up from the paltry, 42psi as it stands today. (remember, I had 70psi with this stock system, but the stock 19lb S4 injectors at 335rwhp.at its best. and 12.5:1 fuel air. makes me think there is some power lurking there
