First, assume the lotus position... now, breathe. And then, grasshopper, wait for the wisdom that will flow to you from this board.

First my condolences for the loss of your mom.
you will find a new gf,

did you clean out the fuel tank?
did you replace the 3 running relays?

83 starts and dies, US or Euro 83?

Sorry to hear about your mom, gf that leaves at a time like that good riddance.

Take your time on the 928, without huge luck and/or money it will take some time and money before its safe to drive. Wash it, sit in it and enjoy the leather smell, but take your time before trying to drive it. First thing I would attend to are the high pressure rubber fuel lines, then proceed with a general cleanup.

Post your location and see if someone is local that can take you for a ride to cheer up and have a look at your car.

Screw at front of spider is usually idle speed , not mixture. Sounds like its starting on the cold start injector. If the main injectors are not providing enough fuel, the temp sensor telling the ecu how much fuel to send may have failed, or it maybe the thermotime switch has failed - this provides rich mixture for a short time on start up. Do some research on how to identify the relevant temp sensor (one is for gauge, one is for ECU), check its resistance (3k ohms cold, 2-300 hot) - if it looks wrong, try starting with the connector removed. if it stays running , it will gradually go rich as it warms and die after some minutes - normal for a disconnected temp sensor - replace it.

Are you sure you want to add an old 928 to the list of crappy things life has thrown at you lately?

A used, neglected 928 is rarely a source of happiness in the short term.

Just want to share a glimpse of realism with you in order to head off a potential big disappointment.

Good luck.

What Randy said first...?

Always fix what you know to be needed first... So get a new battery - start there, if the battery is fried you may be wasting your time with everything else.

Recently purchased 1984 928s auto. Will not start, I drained the tank replaced the fuel pump, cleaned the grounds and checked relays. It has fuel pressure at the rail and 12v at the injectors, my issue i have 12v at the 10 and 29 pins with ignition off but drops to .17v with key on. I have good ground continuity at 5,16,17and 35 pins. Will start with fuel poured in flapper. Any suggestions?
