Ok I have a 82 928 euro s with a no start. Really has me baffled, fine when parked sat for about 3 weeks. It cranks fine, plenty of spark, I went to re-bleed the fuel injectors and I was getting only a drip or two. Soon nothing, So I knocked the fuel send and return free, hit the key hoping to see a fuel spray out, nothing. I checked the fuse and it was fine, next I pulled the fuel pump relay and sent power to the appropriate pin, and viola out sprays fuel. So i put a standard relay in without the pin #30 for the interlock timing circuit, and it only chattered. How long does the fuel pump actually run, and is there any trouble shooting advice where things go wrong with this fuel pump power setup.

Even a google search will get you tons of ideas (assuming that you haven't done this already). As many of the members here have their own site within Rennlist--which includes plenty of troubleshooting and 'how-to's--you'll find these in the returned results which will save you lots of search-time.

I did a 82 no start search here (Rennlist) and 499 returns were, well, returned!

I had that simular problem on my 86 last summer, crank and crank no fire, unless it was totally cold start. After much chasing dampers, full pump, relay's.... I found that the extra hot lead off the battery ws the problem. Even thought the posts were clean and such, I pulled neg and pos and fully cleaned them up and even the hot lead connection clean it too with wire brush. Reconnected and vavoom fired right up and no problems since. Seemed that as has been posted here....ground connections and any really need to be really clean. Hope this helps and you don't have to go through my journey last summer.

On the subject of grounds there is one on the right rear of the car that when dirty or disconnected will shut down the fuel pump.

That does not seem to be the problem. The fuel pump only runs when the engine is turning over or running. Does crossing the fuel pump relay allow the car to start? The fuel pump will come on briefly when the key is first turned on to get the pressure up for the start. Even with a good check valve the fuel pressure will bleed down after a while. The initial start up of the fuel pump when the key is turned is to rebuild the pressure so the car will start faster.

If it starts with the relay crossed then you have found your problem. Checking the accessory lead from the battery is also a good place to start. That one threw me for a bit on and 84.

thanks, I read all the post I could fine last night. Also some incredible journeys before success. Have a ton of stuff going on right now and trying to find a hole in my schedule to do some trouble shooting. Need to get it running so I can get some sleep ;^). david

Well the car has been in my carport for two days now and starts up normally the 6 times I have tried it. Now I get to try to figure out an intermittent problem till it raises its head again. I am certain it was prayer that got it started up so I could bring it home Thursday. david

OK if this is happening then the next step is to buy a can of Deoxit 100,
and spray every fuse and relay connection on the CE panel .
both on the front and back of the panel

Also look above the CE panel for leaks along the sealing edge of the blower box if the air duct is full of tree debris then it’s possible that water can drain onto the CE panel this causes corrosion and can also fill up relays with water look closely for corrosion traces you may have to open the relay to inspect it for damage
