Guys,
I did a quick search but didn't find what I was looking for. It is probably here, but I don't have all day to sort through every thread and post.
I want to get my Big Blacks refinished on my '95... BUT, I don't want the car out of commission. So my question is this...
Which "BIG REDS" are the direct bolt on replacement for BIG BLACKS? That way I can get the "new" Big Reds refinished and then a quick swap out with some new brake fluid and all will be right with the world!
Need some answers pretty quickly on this and I know I will get them here!
Thanks in advance!

Hi James,
Big blacks were on back order and cheaper than the reds.
Big reds are $668 each.
Looks like Blacks are available and $425 each.
I can double check once the Porsche system is up in the morning.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Well, I guess my question is this... Is a 993 C2 caliper a "Big Red"? Thus will a 993 C2 caliper bolt straight on to the GTS?
Also what is the "cross over tube"... I don't do much on the mechanical side so this is new stuff to me.

Crossover tube is the metal pipe from the inner half to the outer half of the caliper, it has to be at the bottom when mounted on the car so you can bleed the brakes.. On a 993 the front wheel Big Red is mounted towards the front of the car (must have something to do with getting as much weight forwards as possible, hmmm...), and the crossover tube is at the bottom. On a 928, the front caliper is mounted towards the rear of the car, so the crossover tube has to be switched to the other end of the caliper.

the main diff between the two other than color is the tube location for getting fluid from the back to the front pots. on the blacks, the tube in on the bottom, bleeds on top. but if you mount up Reds, the tube is on top, bleeds on the bottom. cant bleed them right. so you have to un bolt and switch them.

On another note; it seems like a big expense just to change the color. Several here have painted the calipers while on the car. Not easy or quick, but it can be done. If your going to have a shop remove your big blacks and install big reds, why not have them remove the big blacks and paint them then reinstall with a good brake bleed. The labor to paint them should be a lot less than the cost of new calipers.

James, are you having Ben powdercoat the calipers? I've seen pics on his site and the result is beautiful, but not sure there's an exact-match Big Red powder color available.
As everyone has stated, the only diff btwn 993 TT Big Reds is you swap the position of the crossover tube and bleeders so the bleeders are at the top, as I did on mine. Otherwise you couldn't bleed the air out of them.

Jim thanks for that info. They didn't look quite big enough but there was little to reference.
Rog, thanks as always for the quick reply!
Tom, we are NOT going to make them RED! I just figured used RED's would be easier to find and cheaper than used blacks... I guess not!
So, my thinking now, is buy new blacks, put them on the '92, take blacks from '92 and take them apart and let Ben PC them, then put them on the '95 and sell the perfectly good but lacking all clear coat, BIG BLACKS...
Another question... REAR brake calipers. Are these more common and cheaper and easier to get and if so, what am I looking for there and can I find those used and inexpensive?
Thanks again guys! You all ROCK!
