I was going to see if the starter could be tested when it goes in for the other bits.

Car has heat Shields? (not sure what they're actually called) underneath.
I was hoping as engine ground is to the side I might be able to reach it, these things are in the way :-(
Need to get it up on ramps.
We don't even have a bit of kerb here that we could bump it up on to raise one side.

Call from mechanic today, car has been in for cam belts flex plate etc.
Remember, when w bough the car, Brooklands Garage, Kent, assured us they'd checked it over and that the flex plate tension and cam belts were all fine.
Nope. The belt was ok, but the tensioner and rollers were very much NOT OK AT ALL!
And the flex plate thingy moved 4mm.
And we need a new radiator- mysterious leak came from radiator :-(
And it pulled the no-start trick, guess new ignition switch didn't fix it. They bridged the starter relay which didn't work, so they believe it's a wiring fault on the fuse board as it started after the board was jiggled slightly.
And the ABS sensors are all fine- so presumably fault is on a wire somewhere.
I'm going to cry now.
But soooooo relieved we got the belts and tension checked!

It's still a pretty car though! I wonder if 928 radiators can be re-cored?

They reckon it can, looking at about £250 for that, of a smidge under £300 for one from a porsche breakers- car it's from is an insurance write off, but it had a new radiator less than a year before it got written off, so pretty good. Just waiting for a few more quotes.

A re-core is probably better then a used one. It's funny how every part from a breakers yard is from a low mileage car, driven by a nun, yada yada yada .

What's happening in Tilford? and when is it? we're touring through october, so if it's a weekend, no way :-( Sad times.
And thanks for the advise, I'll go for recore.

Oh, the breakers did actually have a cheaper one which was older!

£250 seems about right for a re-core, I had my 1979 re-cored in copper (manual car) for £240 from a guy in a shed near Gravesend.
Tilford is 6th October but as you are touring I doubt you will make it, good luck with the tour!
