You know that Edwards removed and installed this A/C line without moving the engine, right??

It wasn't a question of hands so much as utter ignorance that it 'couldn't be done'. (And my hands are ridiculous- I wear XXL in gloves, or 8.5's in surgical gloves. I'd make a terrible urologist....)

(Here's the thread on my adventure: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ion-stuck.html

Since all I needed to do was replace the flexible section in the high-side hose, were I to do it again, I'd have Greg do the brazed fitting thing, as outlined here:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...se-repair.html

Jeff's situation is a little more challenging- I think he's better off pulling the engine up, if not out.

Rob, you're a hero.
You should change the title of the thread and move it to the 928 DIY archive.

power steering can be done with engine in car no doubt.....I recall bursting one at a track day a while back in my street 88S4 (sounds familiar huh).....a little duct tape got me home....

AC would be MUCH more difficult....I'm not going to say impossible....but I have spent countless hours trying to make things work the "easy" way vs the hard way that is less time overall.....

Either way if its on my weekend off....I'll be there

Yes, I followed Rob's thread...Bill Ball and I voted down the process early on..but since both lines I would like now to replace..raising the engine would help a lot.

Otherwise, im looking at $1500 to bypass both lines.

Buy the complete set if you can, but get this one tool, for sure.

It's like someone went to them and asked them to make a custom tool for removing upper bell housing bolts. 18" long, BTW!!!
Excellent. My longest 13". More or less works with a second wrench interlocked.

I didn't exactly vote it down. Initially we thought it was the high pressure line at the hose section junction. That's what Rob was able to remove, and Greg mentioned it can be repaired in the car for that matter. So, I thought we would free that enough so a shop could potentially do that repair in the car. But now your shop is saying it's the low pressure line, which honestly I doubt (San Carlos was wrong on my car as well). If it is the low pressure line, I do have doubts about successful removal. It's a much larger line and probably would not do to well if parts had to be bent to get it out.

Even if you wanted to, I don't think you could bend the low pressure line very much at all, it's pretty beefy. As mad as pulling the engine to do this R&R sounds, it's probably the best-practices way to do this.

Bill/etc:

My fabricator will let me use his shop/lift/puller/etc down in Santa Cruz in a few weeks when a GTO build project is done..but its quite the drive for most people. Benefits being a ****load of tools, Alan's help all manner of heat/welding/etc, and about 20-25d cooler than the inland areas.

For anyone willing..I will provide all food, drinks, and even lodging at the house here in Boulder Creek if people didnt wanna go back late, or it spills over.

Of course, a North/East bay option may come up as well.

Weekend of the 23rd is bout where this sits right now.

Yes, I did the same thing, for years....slipping and fumbling around.

This tool is great!

I missed that you were doing both lines. I've never seen a "low side" line leak. Seems like a really "low odds" thing, since it is a solid line. Where does it leak?
