My 89GT is SOLD
SOLD (7/2/12)
This is a well known 928 in the Rennlist community. Certainly one of the finest 89GT's in the US.
Here's a link to the ad in the Rennlist classified section...
89 GT for sale $26,999
After seeing this car for the first time, a certain 928 mechanic from Anaheim stated, "you could search for years and not find another 89GT in this condition".
Why am I selling? The car is literally too nice for me. I'm a driver, not a polisher. I DO realize the significance of a pristine 89GT and I just don't have the heart to add 200,000 miles to this car, like I did with my last 928.
Needs to go to a good home. Feel free to forward your resume to me.
Seriously, I would love to see it go to a Rennlister. Contact me if interested.

Been waiting to post this pic - this is the finish on this car, taken about 2 weeks ago. There is going to be no way to capture in pictures how perfect the paint and interior on Dude's car are.

I have been familiar with this car since 2002 when it showed up at Sharks in the Park that year, having just been purchased from a Reno dealer by John Pohl. The car was very low miles and was showroom fresh. It's had a series of meticulous owners since (Seth Wesiman, Steve Biondi, Rob Righetti). Seth did most of the "upgrades" (GTS wing & mirrors, and stereo). I did minor work on the car with Rob. The last time I saw it a couple of years ago I thought the paint was near perfect. What prompted the complete respray?

That's a great photo, Rob!
Last January, about 8 months into my uber paranoid ownership of the former "seth car", I had the unfortunate circumstance of driving through ~30 seconds of light hail. Mind you, I hadn't driven the car in any rain whatsoever and planned on never driving this car in any inclement weather. On this occasion, no rain had been predicted. The sky had been hazy, but not overcast, throughout the day. Just before sunset, I had an errand to accomplish that I previously put off due to rain a few days earlier. I had already waited three days for the roads to dry. As I crested a grade on the 101 freeway, what appeared to be rain bathed the car and the road for no more than 30 seconds.
Long story, short...light hail chipped nearly every panel. No dings...just enough chips to screw an otherwise perfect 23 old original single stage Guards Red.
I called Greg Brown and he recommended a 928 knowledgeable, Porsche certified paint facility. The same one S4Ordie used, in fact.
In the process, I left the rub strips off and had the rear wiper properly deleted as well. Tons of new rubber seals and gaskets throughout. With the level of attention that was paid to the details in this rejuvenation process, the car is truly better than it was. Ask Greg Brown or Rob.
If I wasn't paranoid enough before, I am now. I check for mud flaps on every truck that drives in front of me. I now try to walk whenever possible.
Someone please save me from this example of 928 perfection that plagues me.

Seriously, I wish I could. I'd love to have a collection including an 85 Euro, 86.5 S3, 89GT, and 95GTS. Yours would definitely be worthy of inclusion. GLWS!

Take a beautiful '89GT and put a $12K perfect red paint job on it.
This car is sick!
I offered to be the first one to put a scratch in it, so Derek could get over the fear of scratching it....he passed...for now.

Hi Derek: That's sure explains it. I would have been sick too. You've done the car proud. It was and is the nicest GT I've ever seen. And you've known this car since our encounter with the Andy Keel supercharger weekend.

Reminds me of a really rich guy I know who buys a lot of new cars. Whenever he gets one he really likes to drive, he goes and whacks it with a hammer so he won't freak out about driving it. Not what I would recommend... but too each his own.
I'm actually in the same boat with my lagoon green S4. The paint/body is not in good shape; lots of scratches, dings, etc. It needs a full respray (and a new front bumper cover; I have the spoiler to attach, but the existing cover is all torn up underneath). But I'm concerned that once I get that respray done, I will be scared to drive it. And I'm a driver like you. So often I get caught in bad weather or behind a dump truck. Hell, just driving it into any parking lot would probably freak me out.
GLWS. Looks amazing.
