Still waiting to hear back from field tests.

If you are interested in participating, I can make you a set at my cost for test purposes.

Thanks
Hans

Hi Hans,
is there any indicative pricing for these speakers?
My mechanic has a customer wanting to replace speakers, while he may be happy to wait, the price may be too high [for the cheap skate!] and they will look elsewhere.

thanks

Any news on the testing of fitment?

I took apart the doors in my '87 today (it has the early style perforated doors with speakers mounted behind) and the door speakers have almost no foam roll surround left. Oddly, the speakers in the quarter panels are in ok shape (I took them out too for a look) - but the door ones are ripe for replacement.

Hilton,

I have several options available. Sending Roger another two sets of speakers using the Wavecor drivers this time. Hopefully he can do an A/B comparison between his two cars and tell us who the winner is.

I have verified that the drivers fit, still just don't know which one sounds better installed.

Thanks
Hans

I submitted a purchase order this morning for two cases (36 drivers) from Wavecor to assemble the first batch of OB production speakers. I also ordered a 5x10' sheet of .125" ABS plastic and the necessary fasteners to put it all together. Adapter plates should be getting cut this weekend, so the wait will be with sea freight, approximately 30 days before the Wavecor drivers get to my distributor in Ohio.

I will be offering two different versions of the OB replacement speakers.

The nicer version will run the Wavecor FR090WA01 which is an excellent 3.5" full-range driver with an aluminum cone and advanced motor configuration including over-sized voicecoil, extensive ventilation, and copper faraday cap. This driver was ultimately selected because of its low-end performance and sensitivity.

The budget version will use a Vifa TG9FD-10-04 which is an excellent value. It also is a 3.5" driver, with a woven glass composite cone. It has a slightly smaller voicecoil, but does contain a copper faraday cap as well. Power handling on this driver is lower than the Wavecor, and its intended application is in a very low power installation (use with stock amp).

Tentative pricing for a pair of speakers using the Wavecor drivers will be around $150, and the Vifa based units will around $100.

I will start a new thread after I get some pictures and definite pricing. I need to assemble a couple more sets and calculate exact time and cost of production.

Thanks
Hans

Hans - are these for replacing just the door speakers, or are you making adapter plates to replace the ones inside the rear quarter panels too?

IIRC, the stock rears are 4" drivers (the mounting studs are 114mm diagonal, square pattern).

Great!!!

1. Can the "better" speakers run off my Nakamichi MBV head unit or do they deff require an additiinal amp?

2. Please confirm both offerings fit behind the perforated door panels on my 79. (Pictures of an OB install would be great)

I'm torn between just updating the speakers or going a step further and adding a shark woofer and amp. I'd like to buy the better speakers and then decide (based on sound) if I need to add an amp and / or a possibly a shark woofer. (Does the shark woofer fit in an OB soared tire well?)

So the important question is; Can I get your better speakers and run them without an additional amp and build from there?
