I was just tired of importing the drivers. At that point, I was the only customer for the 3.5" full range drivers and had to purchase at multiple case quantity. It wasn't a huge investment, but tied up capital.

You can now order the drivers from Parts Express - they picked up the Wavecor distribution in the US. I think they are currently priced $45/driver

I still have some of the plastic adapter plates if people want to build their own. I can also publish the template.

If you are Ok with me grabbing that ball and running with it, I'll have my friends shop pop out a batch.

That's awesome the drivers are now readily available.

I have a stack here. Glad to send them to people for maybe $10/pair to cover the usps shipping. No need to make any more while there is still inventory.

Here is a link to the speakers Hans was using if you want to get them and use some of his mounts. https://www.parts-express.com/wavecor-fr090wa01-3-1-2-aluminum-cone-full-range-4-ohm--298-1020 (new 4 ohm link)

Here is the paper version of the speaker as well if you want to install a separate tweeter and a crossover around 3K https://www.parts-express.com/wavecor-wf090wa01-3-1-2-paper-cone-mid-woofer-4-ohm--298-1128?AID=1457483&PID=3196529&SID=jrlraxfw88000b2n0005c&cjevent=1e6c099c2 5f711e9818500e30a1c0e10

They aren't full range like the aluminum ones and really fall off around 10K hertz compared to the Al set.

For a novice like me who just wants to replace his broken factory speakers in his '78, and continue to use the regular stock radio, which is the best option?
I care more about having a factory appearing unit that functions than having a rolling sound lab.

Order the 4-ohm version posted above you and the plate from Hans.

Full range speakers are never ideal, but these will be light-years beyond the originals and visually you won't be able to tell anything has changed.

I used to build competition grade car audio systems back in the day so I have an appreciation for a well designed / built system. That being said, I also appreciate the stock system in my OB's for what they are and simply having functioning speakers (versus 40 year old rotten ones) goes a long way.

Blake's idea above is another option, but you need to find a tweeter thin enough to fit.

You could use a tweeter like this https://www.parts-express.com/dayton...4-ohm--275-020

It's just a touch over 0.5 inches thick and it's cheap enough to experiment with where you don't feel like you lost $$$ if you break it.

All my remaining plates are now spoken for. I am attaching a PDF template to make your own adapters.

I ordered a set of speakers and will make adapter plates but is there a source for the fabric covering? Mine turned to dust as I removed the speaker.

Get yourself a yard of this when you order your speaker drivers.

Default 85 928S speakers

Hello, after doing some digging into the subject your name kept popping up as a source of custom made speaker replacements for the stock 928 system. Do you have a website or a link to what you have available?

Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
David Carter

David - All my speaker components are gone except for some spare housings for the door tweeters on the 84+ cars. I still have models and prints if that is helpful.
