Default New Product: 928 Competition Suspension Kit

I have always felt that the gap in price between a good shock/spring setup like the Koni/Hypercoils and a state-of-the-art shock/spring setup like Moton/Hypercoils was very wide, leaving plenty of room for a Very Good shock and spring setup.

Better then Koni's, but not as expensive as Motons (which, depending on model, can be $1000 to $1400 per corner for just the shocks - no mounts, no springs).

This kit was developed to hit that gap.

PRO Double-Adjustable Competition Suspension Kit for the Porsche® 928

Benefits: Removes 42 pounds from a stock 928 suspension; transfers unsprung shock weight inboard; provides easy-to-use external valve adjustments for both rebound and compression rate; and allows for spring changes in under 15 minutes per wheel

The Shocks: The PRO AC-series shocks are lightweight aluminum featuring the latest twin-tube gas cell technology. This is a huge leap forward from high pressure mono-tube or gas emulsion shocks. The gas cells positively prevent the oil foaming common to all emulsion shocks, and the low pressure eliminates the hysteresis found in all pressurized shock absorbers. Both compression and rebound rate can be easily adjusted with the shock in the car. Valving is soft-on, yet strong enough to control our stiffest spring packages.

The Mounts: The 928 Motorsports shock mounts use graphite-impregnated polyurethane in the rear for squeak-free and positive location of the rear bearing carrier. No rubber bushings used anywhere in this kit! Further, the mounts are specifically designed for the Porsche 928 and allow rapid spring changes for the racer at the track.

The Springs: 928 Motorsports uses Hypercoils in all of its suspension kits. We selected Hypercoil® (proudly made in the USA) because Hypercoils are manufactured from the highest quality high tensile chrome silicone steel available in the world. Hypercoils are designed to be as light as possible with maximum deflection and at the same time endure the stresses of the extreme conditions common to motor racing. Hypercoils will resist taking a "set" longer than most springs. All Hypercoils are powder-coated a navy blue, the mean spring rate is etched into the end coil.

928 Motorsports Quality: This is a 'lifetime" kit, meant to last the life of your car, even in extreme conditions. Top materials and quality in every part and assembly. Billet aluminum top mounts are hard-coated to a Rockwell C72. Steel parts are yellow-chromate coated for corrosion resistance and lasting good looks.

Kit Features:
  • Lightweight aluminum shocks – saves 42 pounds from stock!
  • Inverted mounting for less unsprung weight, or traditional mount.
  • Quick and Easy external shock valve adjustments
  • Easy ride height adjustments with large range
  • No need for external gas reservoirs
  • No rebound or “bounce” caused by high gas pressures
  • Eliminates spring rate changes caused by hot cylinder gases
  • Springs can be changed in under 15 minutes per corner
  • Works with Hypercoils and all other 2.5” ID springs
  • Mounts in the stock Porsche 928 positions
  • Uses graphite-impregnated polyurethane shock bushings
  • Complete kit – every part, nut, bolt and washer needed to fit the complete 928
  • Easy installation, and instructions are included

The kits is priced at $3878 for everything - shocks, shock mounts, springs, and all hardware. Kit is complete for all 4 wheels. I will take $100 off for Rennlist members.

I have enough bits in stock to fill 9 more orders immediately.

Please let me know what questions you may have, and thank you in advance for your interest.

Why isn't your race car fitted with your steel upper a-arms?

I get this question a lot.

Because my race car is a 1978.

And our steel upper a arms are designed for 86-95, as advertised.

My '91 wears my steel upper a arms.

If you used the later shorter upper A arms you would be able to run more negative camber which would work better on most racetracks with slicks just not on the salt. You would need to shim out the arms to limit the range of the negative camber.

Darn, and I just worked out a way to get the x-pipe. Now I will start saving again. These look just awsome. Not to mention perfect for the dual purpose street/track car for those of us who want both in one.

Beautiful engineering, love the gussetts in just the right places.

Now, this is a GREAT idea and design . way to go! awesome
Now, can this design be used for other shock manufacturers, or is it specific to the PRO shocks.
looks like anyones springs will work, right?

nice

I knew that was coming.... YES, these shock mounts would work with any type or brand of shock absorber that ends in a 1/2" spherical rod end top and bottom.

At first, that is what I was designing. Just the universal mounts so we could have more options for our cars than just Koni's (Bilsteins being pretty much written off by me until I see proof of life from them) (and you cant race Bilsteins with competition springs anyway - the valves are too weak to control higher spring rates). So we have a choice of 1 shock for the 928 right now, and I wanted to correct that.

But, I also realize that John Q Public will (at times) buy the wrong length of shocks and bottom them, damage the mounts, and blame the mounts. So I thought that, if I have to warrant the system, then I have to control whats in it and I better provide the right shocks with the right travel for John Q Public.

But, I could be nudged to sell just the mounts.

Be advised - they are not as inexpensive as they might look. That lower rear mount has 6 parts in it from 5 different manufacturers, and 4 of them are custom made to our spec. Its pricey. And the manufactured volume was small. I can bury the costs of the mounts in the kit with shocks, but as a stand alone, its not a pretty price. $1240

I'm no 928 guru but it appears that the shock an extremely short stroke relative to the body of the shock... can a 928 really only use that much suspension travel?

Carl... great kit at a great price considering everything involved. If someone wanted to go build a set of four DA shocks, with springs, you would be looking at $2000+. Talk about a time saver being able to buy this kit at a super reasonable price.

Frank, you don't need this! You crack me up man. Like a 10-yr old in a candy store!
