With the "old" IMI starter, I only put one on when I absolutely had no other alternative. I thought that the cheesey Japanese starter noise really degraded the 928 experience.

With this new IMI starter, I truthfully can't see any further use for the Bosch starters....

I'll put one of these on 100% of the time!

What happens if you bottom out the pan and it hits the positive contact?

.......The positive terminal has been moved to the side....not on the bottom. The bottom only has the power wire from the solenoid to the starter motor itself and it is protected by a thick flexible boot.

Not counting labor, what's the cost difference between a Bosch rebuilt starter (assuming good core) and the IMI starter?

Both are roughly $250, the factory starter is 15.25 lbs while the new IMI is 10.5. It is substantially more 'stout' than the old IMI.

Is the new starter 9 teeth just like the old Bosch starter?

How does this one compare to the hi-torque lightweight starters provided by PelicanParts (Http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/..._pg1.htm#item0) or 928MS (http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/starter.php)?

We worked with the manufacturer to improve the design of the of the lightweight starter. The original was dangerous and underpowered.

I should have done an audio recording of the old IMI starter vs. this new one, while cranking the stroker over. The old one was always, uh, suspenseful (as in, is it gonna start?), while the new one cranks much faster and evenly.

I have put one on recently from Roger....they seem to be very good, lighter and it was my first real part change I did myself with my son-in-law. It was a little tight (cranking) at first, but after a couple of starts it is working like a charm.....!

Thanks Rog

The Bosch rebuilt with "Bosch Ultimate Protection Plan Exclusive 24 Month Towing - 1-year replacement warranty, 2-year roadside assistance"

Is $91.79 ($61 core)

I'd still like to hear what the new one sounds like, so as to compare with my mental recording of the stock starter. Would you be so kind as to post a clip? Thanks!
